Doesn't suprise me... I've heard nothing but good word about his performance. Haven't seen the film myself however.

I never even heard of it until today and look there, he's now picked up two in a row. Goes to show you how fickle the road to Oscar can be

Time to add There Will Be Blood back into the Oscar game with the critics wins that it's picked up. Got a feeling that Blood is going to knock out Gangster for a best picture nom now. Also have a feeling that unless Atonement starts picking up some steam that it's going to be out of the running since it hasn't won any critics awards so far. Also no love for the Kite Runner tells me that it's out of the running for good. One that does look to be picking up steam is The Diving Bell and the Butterfly along with Blood, which could take Juno's or Atonement's spot.

It seems like NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, THE DIVING BELL..., THERE WILL BE BLOOD and ATONEMENT are the four most likely Best Picture nominees. Although the latter has not won any of the critical awards yet, it did get a very strong general response and is exactly the kind of prestigious, star-driven, literary-based film the Academy laps up. If I had to put money on it, I bet the final spot goes to the wretched JUNO, a la LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE in 2006, to sweeten the otherwise extremely dark and heavy pot.

I nearly posted my predictions for Best Pic like ten minutes ago, and they are 5-5 what you just posted. =D>
If these 5 make it, this very well could be the best year for Best Pic nominated films in decades.

I would certainly be very pleased with that line-up, but I don't know how likely it is. The critics group awards are not necessarily indicative of success with the Academy. The critics tend to choose more challenging films. I still have doubts about the likelihood of TWBB making it in.

So is it safe to say that so far the one thing we know for sure based on all the critics awards is that Amy Ryan is pretty much the lock and the win for best supporting actress for Gone Baby Gone. I think she has won every critics award so far.

Better her than Cate...if only for Barmy's sake.

It's the worst offender on that lame list. I could go on about their various selections, but I have to pick my battles.

If I had to choose an offender, it's the BFCA for ghettoizing comedy in its own category.

Anyone read that hilarious AP article about the recent wins for No Country For Old Men & There Will Be Blood? It was basically 2000 words of "But what about American Gangster, where is American Gangster, we were told American Gangster was the Best Picture!"
