Mister Lonely (Harmony Korine, 2007)

#1 Post by Antoine Doinel »

From the Guardian (reporting from the BIFAs):
Harmony Korine - one time punk and enfant terrible of the New York indie scene - was there in a very ordinary shirt and V-neck jumper but could barely contain his excitement about having last week finished editing his new film Mister Lonely. 'It's pretty weird but it's the best thing I've ever done, by a long, long way,' he told me. It stars Samantha Morton (as Marilyn Monroe), Anita Pallenberg, Werner Herzog and Diego Luna as Michael Jackson.

I rather adore Korine's output and am very excited about this new film.

Is Denis Lavant no longer in this? I was really looking forward to seeing him work with Korine...

At any rate, this is still my #1 most-anticipated movie of the moment (alongside Syndromes and a Century). Very excited to see this soon, hopefully!

Denis Lavant is still in this, as can be seen in these new photos at Film Press (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), and an article here (pdf) from the Harmony Korine website.

Woao, I'm very impressed with the resemblance between Lavant and Chaplin!

I really hope this gets a theatrical release...

Only Korine could pull off a poster like this...

It seems like MJ should use it as an album cover.

James Fox is in it too -- thus reuiniting him with Anita Pallenberg for the first time since Performance.

I'm really looking forward to this. I love Korine's work.

So I guess Herzog is really in love with him huh?
Thanks a bunch.

A fascinating interview with Harmony Korine at the Cannes Film Festival about what he has been up to for the last eight years and details of his now lost script What Made Pistachio Nuts.

The way fake James Dean was jumping up and down in celebration has me convinced I'm gonna love this film.

So what's the US situation with the film?

I have been generally indifferent to Korine's films but this looks fascinating.

As far as I know, IFC has the theatrical rights so we should be seeing a limited release sometime next year.

Both the website and the trailer have a distinct Wes Anderson influence.

Not a big Korine fan, but count me in as intrigued. The Idiots meets Far from Heaven?

The film is being scored by J. Spaceman (aka Jason Pierce) of Spiritualized and will be released on Drag City.

There was a press show last week - I couldn't go, but it does suggest its UK release is in weeks rather than months.
