This is Robert Tapert. These are the same guys trying to remake Evil Dead for Ghost House, just for the marketing dollar value. If you don't think it's a big deal that they're remolding Raimi's style to fit into their production unit formula, always placing packaging over quality, then I feel sorry for you.domino harvey wrote:Uh... he's basically saying, "This will be like Evil Dead, only not gory so we can get a PG-13"-- you're reading it so he makes a slight towards the earlier film, but he's just stating that his new film won't be gory. Big deal.

Coen Brothers to Make Spaghetti Western, from imdb.com:
Count me in.Filmmaking siblings Joel and Ethan Coen are set to make their goriest film ever - a Spaghetti Western featuring scenes of primitive torture methods. The brothers, whose notoriously gory new film No Country for Old Men has been tipped for Oscar glory, are desperate to make a film about the days of cowboys and Indians battling it out in the Wild West of America. But - as Joel warns - it won't be one for the faint-hearted. He says, "We've written a western with a lot of violence in it. There's scalping and hanging ... it's good. Indians torturing people with ants, cutting their eyelids off." Ethan adds, "It's a proper western, a real western, set in the 1870s. It's got a scene that no one will ever forget because of one particular chicken."

This came up in the 2008 Top Tens thread. Discussion of upcoming films is really better suited here though. Here are some films that may or may not be released this year. I combined most of Chaddoli's list (the ones I could find info on) with some of my own. There are also several more films here that I have no interest in, but I know appeal to portions of the membership. I only listed films or directors that have been discussed here before, or ones that seemed like they might be of interest to the forum. Let me know what I've forgotten (no fanboy speculation, please).

Baron Cohen Signs With Spielberg, from imdb.com:
Movie funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen has discovered there is life after his comic creation Borat - he has landed a starring role in a Steven Spielberg movie. Just a week after Cohen announced he had retired Borat - following the success of 2006 movie Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - he has been signed to star as 60s hippie satirist Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago Seven. Hoffman found fame during the Vietnam War by playing pranks to campaign against the conflict. The movie is slated for release in 2010. Vincent D'Onofrio previously played Hoffman in 2000 film Steal This Movie, which was based on a screenplay written by Hoffman and his wife Anita.

In any event, when/if this movie comes out in 2009, I doubt that will be a selling point, since President Huckabee will change peoples' perceptions of the Republican Party.

Not every Republican is an Evangelical Christian, Huckabee will never make it far enough to be the nominee much less President. It's scary that he's so affable and sharp because if you look at his record, he's the most terrifying candidate-- I mean, if you want the next Reagan in terms of not caring about AIDS, here's your man.

This obviously sounds like a stupid idea, but I doubt it will actually happen. Tarantino is insisting on trying to appeal to his lowbrow audience (or just his normal audience, as some would say). But I don't know, last time he tried to make a bad film he made Death Proof, which I thought was spectacular, nearly as good as Jackie Brown but for completely different reasons.Barmy wrote:Tarantino to remake "Faster Pussycat Kill Kill"? I wouldn't put it past him.
