Word on the street is that Singer and the rest of the cast of Superman Returns, will not be returning for sequel.

They already let the writers go back in October. I'm sad that The Man of Steel is apparently dead but it will be some consolation to watch how the people who wanted Singer off the series react when the next Superman film is a Catwoman-level monstrosity.

I'm sorry for referencing Ain't It Cool News as a source, but they claim to have contacted the Superman/Warner camp and confirmed Brandon Routh is still attached to the role for the individual Superman franchise. Variety was running rumors and also implying by negation that Justice League wasn't recasting Christian Bale, which they are.

And fans won't have to wait long for the next Catwoman, Justice League should fit the bill nicely. Supposedly their still having casting sessions, so I can only assume Warner wasn't entirely sold on the cast of the O.C.

The first two teasers for Man of Steel, the same footage in each one but with different voice-overs from Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner.

Wow. Looks like a Terrence Malick film/Levi's commercial. If they really go this route, it could be one of the most interesting superhero films ever. I prefer the Costner version.

I've never been a big fan of the character, but how Goyer, Snyder and Nolan will make Superman an identifiable character in today's world will be interesting to say the least.

I actually preferred the Crowe version. Seeing it on the big screen helped, but his dialogue cut together with the footage was quite stirring. If his performance lives up to that voice-over, it'll blow Brando's performance out of the water.

What I find surprising about the teaser is how similar it is to the teaser for Singer's Superman. This new one stands out in that it's apeing Malick's style, but nevertheless it's trying to sell Superman with the same solemnity that was used to sell Singer's film. I'm surprised WB would go in the same direction after Singer's film proved a wash.

Yeah, that's the one. Both are very powerful teasers. Singer's film never lived up to the promise displayed there. Hopefully, this new one fares better, but with Snyder directing I remain skeptical.

Nice to see Snyder mixing up the visual style for this film (or at least for this trailer). I agree with Highway that it seems derivative of the trailer for the 2006 film and not nearly as effective. That iconic score and Brando's narration seemed to be promising something grand (even though it didn't deliver). The bit at the end of the trailer with Superman hurtling through the sky followed by the logo seems to be a way for the WB marketing people to assure the audience that "yes, this is a Superman movie" because the rest is so unclear.

There are similarities between the two, but this pair has a way more subtle and somber tone.

Regardless of which teaser is better, I'm just fascinated by WB's decision to advertise this movie (at least at this early stage) in virtually the exact same manner as Singer's Superman Returns, which remains an embarrassment for everyone involved. My understanding is that even six years after the fact Seth Macfarlane took shots at it in Ted. It just seems like a bad move to me, even if I personally find it to be a great teaser.

Bryan Singer himself has even said if he knew it would have turned out like it did, he would have gone back to direct X-Men 3 in a heartbeat.

Not that I really want to nitpick over this, but I don't think it's as identical to the previous film's teaser as you seem to think it is. You really only see the suit at the end, from quite the distance as he's hurdling into the air. Visually, I think the Man Of Steel teaser is giving a glimpse of the kind of life he had before the cape. Really more about establishing an environment, than just giving you some cool FX shots of him jumping around as in the Returns teaser.

Any reaction to the Superman: Man of Steel trailer? I thought I was watching the trailer for Deadliest Catch: The Movie. Don't understand why Snyder and WB decided to go with a dark Superman, why he is hitchhiking and working as a fisherman.

Cavill should have insisted on some sort of CGI bulge-enhancement to help him out a bit.

The underwear-less costume is part of the Jim Lee re-design for every character in the new DC universe. Now no one wears their underwear outside their tights.

I am probably too excited for this, but any excuse for Michael Shannon to ham it up is fine by me.

This actually has me a bit excited to see it, and i'm not a huge fan of superhero stuff. The Avengers was the first one i really really enjoyed in years. This seems to have some depth to it and it LOOKS amazing. I hope they pull it off. I never saw the 2006 film because I heard it was so bad. Glad I waited.
