Charley Varrick and Colossus: The Forbin Project

#1 Post by Person »

Two Universal R1 pan and scan/open-matte fuck-ups are now available or soon to be available in R2 in anamorphic OAR:

Charley Varrick (German DVD) in anamorphic widescreen. Available now.

Colossus: The Forbin Project (UK DVD) in anamorphic 2.35:1. Includes commentary by Joseph Sargent and actor Eric Braeden. Available 26 May.

A most welcome surprise! :D

I saw Colossus: The Forbin Project in 2.35 on TV once and I've been waiting with an OAR DVD release ever since. This movie has an amazingly gripping and well written script. Easily one of my favourite scifi films.

The scuttlebutt had Braeden on the commentary track, but the specs at DVD Times make no mention; nice art BTW.

The cover is nice, I agree. No Braeden on the track? Oh well. Sargent is 83 in July and still does prime-time TV movies - not bad! The Taking of Pelham 123 could also do with a remastered SE.

I have Colossus: The Forbin Project on laserdisc which is letterboxed and belive me you miss alot on the pan and scan dvd version. Why Universal did not release a widescreen anamorphic in the first place is really fucked up for us in the states. It's also one of my favorite SF films and it makes me glad that i have a all region dvd player
