so this is the "untitled Alan Ball project" that was in pre-production when I was interning at one of the film's production companies.

It looks like it could be interesting (I'm definitely getting that Six Feet Under/American Beauty vibe)

Probably because it's an easier sell than the Arab-tween-sexually-molested-by-a-military-neighbor-vibe.

Yeah, it looks pretty good but the trailer/promotion seems to be self-consciously glossing over its potentially controversial elements (see the title "Towelhead" shown over pretty, glittering lights and a pop-rock soundtrack).

Have you guys never heard of the novel? You couldn't read a single review that didn't touch on the, you know, plot of the book. It's not like Million Dollar Baby or an M. Night movie. Just because the studio doesn't want to market it as what it is doesn't mean the MPAA is the bad guy-- on this at least.
