Sendit has this up for preorder for a jan 21 release. I think it showed up in Amazon's system last summer but whatever release was imminent then got delayed. Now there's actual artwork. The R1 is edited, so one hopes this is an unedited version. Oh, and that it actually shows up. Gillian Hills fans unite!

I just watched the recent Orbitmedia DVD (UK) release of Beat Girl. I didn't expect much from the transfer and was really suprised by the quality of it. Running at 87', the film IS uncut (complete with the strip-tease scenes), the b&w image is crisp and without a trace of ghosting, the sound is very good. The original format (1:66 I believe) has been sightly modified to 1:40 something, nothing much to complain about.
This was my first contact with Beat Girl ever and I guess I will have scenes of it playing over and over again in the next few weeks. Great cast, fun music, over the top script and acting plus very decent job by director Edmond T. Gréville. Loved it!
The price of the brit DVD makes this one a no-brainer for the fans of the film or the curious. And it's legal!

I must admit most of it was lost on me but I go the idea and the delivery of the actors made the rest. I had no trouble understanding Noëlle Adam's english though... The DVD has no subs, english or all.davidhare wrote:How do you find the Beat lingo? I've often wondered how a French subtitles stream would handle things like the line readings of "Man, I dig like it's a groove..."

Much thanks Tom! I've been itching to hear some confirmation that it's an upgrade to the R1. I'm not altogether sure why this film makes me smile so much but there it is. In the lists forum, I came within a whisker of putting it on both my greatest 60s list and the British list, and chickened out both times.Tom Peeping wrote:The price of the brit DVD makes this one a no-brainer for the fans of the film or the curious. To be complete about the Orbitmedia DVD release of Beat Girl, black bars appear from time to time at the top or bottom of the frame, and most notably in the opening credits: it has to do with their cropping of the image (it didn't bother me really). Things get much better after opening credits have rolled. Also a few scenes are more in the greys than crisp black & white. These are the only minor problems with this DVD. All in all, a very satisfying release... until CC, MoC or MK2 picks it up for immortality.
BTW, I saw on IMDb that Noëlle Adam was Serge Reggianni's companion for 30 years. Made me smile.
David, it's a deal!
