If I was forced to do a Top Ten list of my favorite films of 2006 (which JoBlo thankfully doesn't force me to do) BRICK would very likely be on there. It's a film that seemed to divide audiences and I saw it on as many Worst Lists as I did Best Lists. The film was the introduction of a great new talent - writer/director Rian Johnson - and I anxiously await his next film THE BROTHERS BLOOM. Johnson's cast is coming together with an impressive cast. Oscar nominees Adrien Brody and Rinko Kikuchi (BABEL) have signed on to join Rachel Weisz (another Oscar nominee) in the conman flick. Brody will play one of the titular brothers who are conspiring to rip off a rich heiress (Weisz). Kikuchi will play a literally silent partner of the boys. The other brother Bloom has not yet been cast but how about Orlando Bloom? Or Judy Blume? Or Bloom County? OK enough. Filming on BLOOM is scheduled to begin this summer. Brody can be seen next in Wes Anderson's THE DARJEELING LIMITED, while BLOOM will be Kikichu's first post-BABEL film.

I dunno, I enjoyed all those films but I am curious to see what Johnson does with this one and if he takes a similar approach to the writing as he did with Brick.lord_clyde wrote:Sounds like an impressive cast, I just hope this 'con' flick can do something to set it apart and above recent dissappointments like the Ocean's films and Confidence.

I'm eagerly anticipating this one, although it's going to be tough to follow up a film as enjoyable and engaging as Brick. I am not an Adrien Brody fan, which is a minus to begin with, but the rest of the cast looks great. If Ruffalo isn't playing the other brother, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Johnson use Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Wow, I'm usually not excited by stills but the pic of Rachel Weisz's reflection in a heart-shaped mirror in front of a spread out deck of cards is fantastic. The rest of the stills show that Johnson's keen eye for style and detail are still intact.Fletch F. Fletch wrote:Empire magazine has new pics on their site.
I'm really looking forward to this film.

Looks like Oceans Twelve, complete with Robbie Coltrane. That aside, I am looking forward to this.

The Brothers Bloom (Rian Johnson, 2008)
The trailer for this film plays before Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Not knowing anything about this or what it was based on, I couldn't help but notice it seems to take place in all times of the 20th Century all at once - it features steam engines and helicopters, 70's VW Beetles and modern Mercedes, Adrian Brody in a bowler hat and suit suitable for 1910, Mark Ruffalo dressed like some kind of gangster from the 20's and Rachel Weisz as a mix of everything.
Other aspects are clearly playing off new and old methods, styles and technology, including props and characters... does anyone have any idea why this is? Was this intentional or is this just some massive mistake on a very bad art director's part who has no idea what they're doing?

Wow, reading that review sent a shiver down my spine! I can't wait to see this. I was jazzed up already; I loved Brick so much that I can't imagine anything else coming out of that creative mind failing to meet my expectations. This can't come out soon enough.
That's a great comparisonFair enough. I always compared Brick to the TV series Veronica Mars, personally
