King Shot (Alejandro Jodorowsky, 2009)
This seems to be inching ever closer to being a reality, but I'm still holding my excitement until actual shooting begins. I'm a big fan of his stuff and would like nothing more then to see this film get made, it seems like I've been hearing about it forever. Anyway, here's the official site which has nothing on it yet. Anyone know anything else about this film?

all I've heard is that it's about gangsters and a casino in the desert... and someone finds a giant human skeleton in that desert (like the size of a building).
I can only hope that Jodorowsky has somehow refined his filmmaking skills (as I found El Topo and Fando Y Lis to be very annoyingly over-stated)

I've seen Santa Sangre twice, although not since the early 90s, and it's a film that has stuck with me ever since. I remember enjoying it very much, on both occasions, if only for the sheer macabre-ness of it. Certainly one to hunt out if you haven't already. Funnily enough, I wasn't too impressed by my single viewing of El Topo. One to revisit?

El Topo is absolutely worth revisiting in all its lunatic late Sixties glory. But to my mind The Holy Mountain is still the highpoint of Jodorowsky's career to date, especially if it can be seen on the big screen.

Not to be a rule monger, but copying and pasting stuff from there is easier than writing up re-phrases. So:
Little-Read Rules wrote:...if you don't like a film (or whatever the topic under discussion is), no one really needs you to comment on that fact and disappear. If you must post your disapproval in a thread, at least back it up with some reasoning.

Sad news...
According to this very interesting interview in French (http://www.ecranlarge.com/article-details-10273.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), the film is postponed until next year because of the economic crisis. Moreover, Asia Argento, due to the fact that she's pregnant again, will not be part of the movie. This decision is not definitive yet but it is rather sure.
Sorry if my English is not correct, I'm French.
If you need any explanations about the interview (in case you don't understand French), don't hesitate to ask me.

I like the Mickey Rourke casting
Here's the rough excerpt:
Here's the rough excerpt:
Who have you chosen for the casting?
I chose Asia Argento because I wanted her to play a young 18 year old girl. But right now, she is pregnant again. Therefore I'd love to do this film but Asia is off-topic right now. Maybe we'll see once she gives birth, but on principle I don't know, I can't trust that. If not, we already have Marilyn Manson, Nick Nolte and Mickey Rourke.

Considering how fast Rourke's calendar seems to be filling up, I will not be surprised if this project completely falls apart.

So it looks like this is actually going to happen. Financing is nearly completed (the budget is a paltry $7.4 million), the cast is still amazingly eclectic (Nick Nolte, Asia Argento, Udo Kier and Marilyn Manson), Vilmos Zsigmond is officially signed on and its set to start shooting in October.

Sadly, I wouldn't take this as a given. Screen International's back pages are littered with "announcements" of films that never ended up getting made. But fingers crossed this does end up happening. Jodorowsky has been away too long.

If I'm not supposed to only say I don't like Santa Sangre but have to explain why, well, can I just quote this scene?
"T-This, this is... paint!"
"No, it's holy blood."
"It's paint."
"It's HOLY BLOOD."
"Paint."
"IT'S. HOLY. BLOOD!!!"
