It would be nice if they made those commentaries available as a free download from their store.

Just because a film is released through Eclipse doesn't mean that the film won't receive a separate, complete release through the Criterion label. I can seem them putting I Was Born, But.. out as a Criterion.

I'm sure many people here would enjoy that. There has yet to be any Eclipse - Criterion main label overlaps so I guess many (myself included) just assume that Criterion do not plan to release separate editions of any of the films featured in Eclipse sets.

Well, I assume that they eventually will get around to it. I'm in no hurry, though.

Quite some time ago Criterion stated that Eclipse sets would not preclude a Criterion release, regarding the Louis Malle Docs and Phantom India in particular. So there's still a good chance other stuff will come out.

I eagerly await the whines of "Oh man, now they expect us to double-dip" upon the announcement of the first Eclipse overlap

Not only do I plan to whine about that, I also plan to whine about how that slot in the schedule could have been given to some movie I haven't seen already.

And I can't wait until the barebones Eclipse release becomes a double-dip Criterion release and then becomes a triple-dip Essential Arthouse release. Hat trick for Criterion!

....and then a quad dip when it's released again in BluRay.

They'll surely release "Scandal" and "The Idiot" as full CC versions soon....

This year Eclipse KUROSAWA and LUBITSCH came mid January & early Feb respectively, so hopefully 2009 will kick off strongly with Eclipse ROSSELLINI and GORIN following a similar pattern....

I think we should stick with what releases we have (Eclipse) and hope for new titles to come out that hasn't seen the light of day. It's too early to hope for overlaps of Eclipse titles.

Isn't it preversely ironic that Jean-Pierre Gorin contributes a special feature to seemingly every other Criterion release when he won't be able to do anything for his own work?

Welcome to the board! The chances of not including (assuming they have the rights) Rise of Louis XIV would be a crime. Simply put.

Forgive me if this has already been answered (I did a search but could not locate anything), but whatever became of Cronenberg's Crash? I seem to recall a note about inquiries being directed toward Criterion, etc., but I noticed the film no longer appears on any of the lists...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It would seem that once New Line got taken over by Warners the possibility of a Criterion edition went from slim chance to no chance.

Why would we need that when we have the outstanding Entertainment Programs Inc. release in the US? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Seriously, it's one of the worst DVDs I've ever seen. I'd be happy with a semi-competent disc with nothing but the feature on it compared to what's available now.
