Yes but most of the sound designers I know still prefer ProTools.

what was your goal with that film?

It seemed, to me, to be a series of unrelated video shots overlayed with non-pertinent audio. I found it actually quite similar to some of the early films of Weerasethakul (which I must admit I don't care for in the least, despite loving his post-Object at Noon feature work).

I know you wanted an answer to that question, but I'd like to treat it as rhetorical instead, which is a good criticism (i.e. "goal not apparent"). Or maybe I'll PM you later. I guess I don't like explaining myself too soon after finishing and putting something online. I also consider the film the communication (which can succeed or fail, or a bit of both).

I loved Blissfully Yours. I have no idea what my delay is in seeing the rest of his movies, but it's the only one I've seen. So in a strange way that was a nice comment for me, even though you dislike the films in question.

Excellent work, exte! Very creative and well realized, especially in terms of production values. Jim in the box was an effectively eerie figure. I thought possibly the radio singing section went on slightly longer than necessary, although that's my only nitpick. Shot compositions were all really good. You have a nice style. Was that shot on 35mm?

16mm actually. It should look better from the dvd I made which is a clean transcode straight from the beta tapes... Anyway, thank you!!

My mom was painting on canvas outside one day and I thought I'd grab the camera and tripod. Yesterday, I finally threw it on the Avid and here's what I got.

I have just recently finished shooting my latest 16mm film, entitled 'Kiss', and have completed a rough edit (which isn't saying much because it is comprised of only two shots and is about 5 minutes in length). It's still silent at this point, but I'm going to be working with a professional audio engineer to record and create the soundtrack.

Here are a few stills. The film wont be making it to the web anytime soon as I'm submitting it to any number of film festivals.

This is my first project using a professional camera operator (I normally shoot my films, but this one required steadicam), and I have a feeling that I will not be able to afford another film like this in a long while.

I was also excited to work with the native 1.66 ratio of Super16, and I specifically told the post house to preserve the ratio when doing the HD telecine.

thanks... I'm still in an uneasy place with it right now, but I guess I always am at this stage when I have no sound (it makes watching it almost painful). But then I come around once I start sound-design. I'm really excited to start the sound process. Fuck sound effects libraries, it's all about recording your own material.

What's your ASA? And would you mind sharing your final budget? Fantastic stills by the way. Was it all outdoor lighting? And what size lens did you use? Thanks...

for the interior shot I used Kodak Double-X Negative film (ASA 200T) and for the exterior shot I used Kodak Plus-X Negative film (ASA 80D)

For the interior I used a 12mm high-speed Zeiss lens and the exterior I used a 9.5mm High-Speed Zeiss lens, both with Super16, of course. The camera was an Arri SR3.

the whole budget for the film is approximately $3,000... I haven't really tabulated everything yet, but that's pretty close, it seems.

Luckily my boss (I'm a video editor for an upcoming online venture) was very generous with partially backing the project (he ended up 'investing' $1,430).

edit: Oh, and the lighting outdoors was natural, and indoors it was mostly the lighting in the Diner (overhead florescent) with one small soft-box for just an added push on the faces.

I'm planning on sending it to several European and domestic festivals (my dream, of course, would be either Rotterdam or Cannes... but that's unlikely).

I am also planning several more short films over the course of the next two years (I'm going back to school to get an MFA and want to concentrate on film/video work). I actually hope to construct a feature narrative using these small pieces revolving around a central character.

Just wondering if anybody has some comments on world film community. Is it ok, or still too messy? It's just a little project I have been working on. It's possible to upload your own films. Well, anyway, looking forward to some comments if anybody has some? Criticism welcomed.

The film is called Asshole and is about one.

Here is the invite for a FREE screening in New York City of the four short films my company made this year. It'd be great if those of you who are in the area could attend. One of the films stars Gavin McInnes of Vice Magazine fame (discussed in the last post) and another is Dead and Lovely, which I posted about a few months ago. I don't know if this is an appropriate thread, but I need a better camcorder. I'm looking to spend 400 through 900 dollars. Any ideas?

I might as well explain my project, too. I'm the Editor in Chief for my school's Lit. Mag. I organized a Film Festival to be run through the club. The festival is set to be in January. I have a film for it in the works. You can check out some awful shit I did earlier in the thread (I think around page four?). I now have pages upon pages of notes for a screenplay. It involves teens. The problem is finding three male leads that can drive and act. Luckily, they're realistic characters so it should work. This is the first time I didn't just jump into the script, and I'm working on buffing up one of the male leads' story. It's not as strong as the other two. I'm awful at dialogue, so once I get a first draft done I'll upload it and share it. Thanks in advance for any help you're willing to give.

You may consider one from the Canon VIXIA HD Camcorders such as the HF100, HF10, HG20 or HG21. Don't let the suggested retail prices scare you off since you can do some price comparisons online. I am seriously considering buying the recently released HF11 camcorder with its Dual Flash Memory to record up to 24Mbps both on the camcorder's 32GB internal memory as well as on a removable SDHC card.
