And I thought the exclusive Soderbergh commentaries were low. What's funny about this of course is that by making them Blu-ray only, there is literally no reason for anyone to buy the standard disc "Special Edition"-- but hello, this film skews an older consumer who is likely skeptical of Blu-ray players and will just skip the release entirely. Brilliant marketing move, Warner Bros #-o

Au contraire, there is still a plenty good reason to buy the standard disc version instead of the Blu-Ray - if you own only a standard DVD player and not a Blu-ray player.domino harvey wrote:And I thought the exclusive Soderbergh commentaries were low. Ah, I understand, and I retract in part my previous statement. i didn't read carefully, and thought the extras were on both.domino harvey wrote:Au contraire nothing. Your argument that people will buy DVDs because they can play them on their DVD player not withstanding, unless someone is some sort of Illeana Douglas completest, the only reason to upgrade is for the bonuses, and they're on the Blu-ray.
But nonetheless, for those who don't have the previous edition and don't have Blu-Ray (a dual subset that probably contains 99% of all DVD owners) may well buy the new standard DVD.

Fair warning: I am going to rant.
Seriously? That's it?
I was really hoping that 2009 would be the year Warner kicked it up a notch. This year has been just abysmal; for crying out loud their biggest release was a Dirty Harry box! I love this film, and for a fleeting few seconds I was glad to see Warner was giving it their deluxe treatment. Things are looking up at last! For a few seconds, that's what I thought, and I just knew that we'd be getting word of all kinds of good stuff in the coming months. And then it was over. What happened to Warner? Is it my imagination?
I really, really want my anger to be unjustified. But right now, I can only imagine their deluxe 70th anniversary edition of The Hunchback of Notre Dame will feature an interview with a real hunchback.
