no sir, persona is the best bergman film to me.

Criterion handling Wings is a huge deal and exciting news. I agree with DH that it will def be a standalone release.

hour of the wolf ( 1968 )
shame ( 1968 )
face to face ( 1976 )

by the way, i haven`t seen karin`s face, so you might be right.

I have heard rumours of Face to Face getting a Criterion release for god knows how long.

REALLY hope theyll release it with both versions (a la Scenes From A Marriage)

i hope they release Face to Face like Scenes from a Marriage. Then again, that would be the smart thing to do though. There is no other way to release it.

Are there any other high profile foreign titles Paramount are sitting on? I know Vardim's Blood and Roses has been mentioned in the Paramount speculation thread but Mulvaney has already nixed that possibility.

Yes, it's a crime that "Citizen's Band" hasn't been issued on DVD. Any release would be good, but a Criterion especially welcome.

The Tenant, Seconds and The Elephant Man all went OOP at the same time about a year ago. I have not heard about special editions for any of these titles through Paramount. Any would be welcome on Criterion...though unlikely. I'm still hoping that they've got a special edition of Brain Candy or Looking for Mr.Goodbar up their sleeves.

Anyway Wings, Friends of Eddie Coyle, Face to Face, etc. are all great films in the meantime.

The Elephant Man will be included in the David Lynch Lime Green Set with new bonus features, so I guess that's its special edition.

"It was a completely unusual gesture because acquiring firstrun films is not something we're going to be doing on an ongoing basis," said Becker. Becker said Janus is well positioned to release the new pic through existing relationships with arthouses that rely on Janus for their repertory calendar.

Founded in 1956, Janus is credited with introducing such foreign helmers as Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa to American audiences. Its sister company Criterion releases many Janus pics as high-end "authoritative" versions on DVD and Blu-ray.
