"When Nazi Germany showed that the scariest enemy could even be a white person! It didn't have to be an oriental or some other creature."Andy Fickman wrote:After Frankenstein and the Wolfman came Lewton and RKO, and what they lacked in budgets they made up for with atmosphere, imagination and great directors making horror with psychological flair. It was on the heels of WWII, when Nazi Germany showed that the scariest enemy might be the person who looked like your next door neighbor. It didn’t have to be some creature.

Brace yourself Domino. Soderbergh's post/concurrent-"GFE"/Liberace project has been announced and it's a doozy.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. Script written by onetime GBV bassist Jim Greer. Variety could be really saying; 1. Using previously written GBV material, 2. GBV back together, or 3. GBV shorthand for really just Pollard.Tom Hagen wrote:I thought GBV broke up a few years ago and Robert Pollard was doing his own thing. If they are back, that's almost better news than a cool new Soderbergh project.

Martin Scorsese/Scott Rudin are set to produce a Mike Nichols directed remake of High and Low scripted by David Mamet. This could be good.

Because the original is great, and there really is no need to a "modern take" (or whatever it is they're going to do) on the story. The whole thing smells of Scorsese and Rudin trying to recreate the Oscar success of The Departed.moviscop wrote:In all honesty and respect, why?Antoine Doinel wrote:No matter the caliber of talent involved, it's a terrible idea.

Damn, and here I thought they had finally run out of comic books to adapt into movies.Antoine Doinel wrote:Sam Mendes to direct Preacher, based on the Vertigo comic.

Zach Snider's Watchmen notwithstanding, this has to be the biggest wtf moment in the history of big screen comic book adaptations. Mendes' Road To Perdition was far from bad in my book, but Preacher? The series is on a whole other level on so many levels.Grand Illusion wrote:Damn, and here I thought they had finally run out of comic books to adapt into movies.Antoine Doinel wrote:Sam Mendes to direct Preacher, based on the Vertigo comic.

Michael Cimino hints at a new film, but probably not. Wouldn't mind seeing that Footloose footage though.

Re: New Films in Production
Well, the format is a good idea, but I'm sure whatever else is up their sleeves will be terrible....breaks the feature into four 20-minute shorts, in an approximation of the vaudeville and slapstick pioneers' most common format in the 1920s and '30s.
