Actually, since the remakes will be based on scripts at least co-written by Lewton and thus will generate royalties, I think Lewton is probably jumping for joy in his grave.

I thought GBV broke up a few years ago and Robert Pollard was doing his own thing. If they are back, that's almost better news than a cool new Soderbergh project.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. Script written by onetime GBV bassist Jim Greer. Variety could be really saying; 1. Using previously written GBV material, 2. GBV back together, or 3. GBV shorthand for really just Pollard.

Martin Scorsese/Scott Rudin are set to produce a Mike Nichols directed remake of High and Low scripted by David Mamet. This could be good.

Because the original is great, and there really is no need to a "modern take" (or whatever it is they're going to do) on the story. The whole thing smells of Scorsese and Rudin trying to recreate the Oscar success of The Departed.

Zach Snider's Watchmen notwithstanding, this has to be the biggest wtf moment in the history of big screen comic book adaptations. Mendes' Road To Perdition was far from bad in my book, but Preacher? The series is on a whole other level on so many levels.
