Gregory Peck Film Collection (Universal)

**Universal** has announced a November 4th release date for The Gregory Peck Film Collection.

The 7-disc set will contain two previously released titles, To Kill a Mockingbird (Special Edition) and Cape Fear (1962) and four titles new to DVD, Arabesque (1966), Mirage (1965), Captain Newman, M.D (1963) and The World in His Arms (1952). To Kill a Mockingbird and Cape Fear will be the exact same as previously released and the only additional bonus feature is a theatrical trailer for The World in His Arms.

Retail price is 59.98

How is Mirage? I've heard the Quincy Jones score, which is good, but otherwise it's a film I never hear about.

Mirage is a surprisingly good film, a melodramatic thriller but always with a sly sense of humor (supplied by Walter Matthau, so very good in this). I saw this a few years ago on AMC pan-and-scan, but that didn't diminish the good vibes I got from it. It also features some absolutely stunning camera movement (gotta check out that first death!) and Dmytryk's sense of pacing never flags.

Not a great film, but I think of it as a very minor classic. I'm not a Peck fan, but since I don't own any of the films in the set, this is a must-buy.

Now to pass the buck... anyone have any thoughts on The World In His Arms?

Beaver. Individual slimcases with great cover art. Arabesque and Mirage are worth having, and I won't mind replacing Mockingbird and Cape Fear with slim versions -- especially at seven bucks per disc.

Wow, very Warners-esque approach to the cover art. Now, if only all labels would follow suit! =D>
