Right, sorry about being unclear about that ;)

I don't know anything about the Eisenstein box, but there are two (slightly) different versions of the Umbeto D cover:
One good looking: Criterion
And one strange looking: Amazon (this is the one my copy has)

Mine's the second one too... it looks like Criterion's cover image is just cropped?

My guess is that they're not first printings anymore. The first printings of Dreyer, Eisenstein, Cocteau and Bergman had an outside thingy (I still have them on all my boxes) that was gummed to the outside of the box. I was writing from my old lady's apt, so I didnt have the Eisen box to hand. I was thinking it might have just been the back cover, too.

Interesting about the clear cases. The first printings are plain black amarays.

With the first Criterion Blu-rays being released in less than two weeks, has the actual packaging been revealed? I'm curious to see what they will look like.

The standalone release of A Woman Under The Influence..is it a snapcase or just the digipak thing that's in the boxset?

It's in a clear amaray case like most of their new discs.

Just a quick note. A snapcase is the combination of cardboard and plastic that Warner's was notorious for using. They're crap. A keepcase is the all-plastic package that you find the majority of your dvds in.

Nice. Simon is a welcome surprise.

I guess the double/triple clue was a hoax...?

Looks nice I guess, but only three titles? And lol at there still not being a single Bunuel Criterion with a commentary

Not the biggest fan of the way the letters run off the edges of the page for Simon.

They all look like quick, simple jobs... reminiscent of Spy Who Came In...

Why? I'm not sure Bunuel's films lend themselves very well to real-time discussion. There's no shortage of dissection of the man and his films on their existing titles.

But an underwhelming month. No Japanese horror Eclipse?

Sadly, there isn't a whole lot of scholarship on Bunuel. There really isn't any good books on Bunuel's art in the same manner. :?

I don't think they look bad, but they do feel very "safe"-- I mean, taking no risks means we don't get up in arms, but there's also no chance to rise above and provide a striking cover either. Ah well

I love the typography on Hobson's, but I feel that more could have been done with the cover as a whole. Of course, I've not seen the film, so who knows.

Armond White's seal of approval cancels out my interest in seeing Laughton in anything, so now I'm torn

To paraphrase myself, I didn't know David Lean was director of marketing for Chili's.

Looks nice, I was hoping to get a chance to see what the Criterion Blu-Ray packaging looks like, but that has been moved back.

That would be nice, but then why not just use the same packaging as the SD with a big blue sticker on the outer plastic.

So these will be thinner and shorter than the regular amrays? Has Criterion manufactured their own cases?
