I believe when the complete Dr. Katz came out, it had a similar list price/DD price, but it was released in November so who knows if this one will stay that way or not

So is this... I'm thinking the sale will be starting no longer than 1-2 weeks after this is released (the November sale is usually mid-month, right?)... so as long as the price doesn't jump once the street date passes, I'm thinking it should be OK.

And, really, Shout! Factory stuff is usually pretty nicely discounted on DD anyway, so I'll be paying $75 at the most once the 20% is subtracted anyway, I might as well wait.

Now that the boxed set resides at my house and I've been forced to watch it, I've got to state that this is one of the best animated shows I've ever seen. I was aware of it when it aired on Adult Swim but refused to tune in primarily because I didn't like the art style...now, I love even that! The characters' deadpan delivery and the show's comedic timing are really quite sophisticated and nuanced, which makes the rough, slipshod art all the more endearing. And I'll just continue to sing the praises of the coach. I rarely laugh out loud watching a tv program, but he's gotten more than a few guffaws out of me.
One of my favorite parts of any given episode ends up being the movies that the gang shoots, they're always such fun to watch! (Especially the "fat movies" sequence) And Jason's raspy snuffle of a voice is wonderful. I'm just thrilled that I have many more episodes to go through!

After Season 2, no more squiggle-vision!

Actually, Season 1 is the only season to use Squigglevision.

Season One was produced for UPN a few years before Season Two was made for Adult Swim, after the show gained a cult audience on Cartoon Network. By then I guess they figured that using Flash was just cheaper, more practical, and more aestetically pleasing all around.

Oh absolutely. I had the squiggles. I don't watch the squiggle-vision episodes. I just listen to them whilst I'm doing other things.

As a big Dr. Katz fan, I don't mind Squigglevision in theory, but I still can't watch the first season. Paula Poundstone shares some responsibility for that though

Poundstone was absolutely brilliant as the mother, and squiggle-vision is gorgeous. The non-pulsating graphics in later seasons are unsightly.

Janine Ditullio is by far the more talented, funny Paula Small. By far. Her comedic timing is right on point.

I am literally in tears rewatching the episode "Definite Possible Murder" right now. The bartending subplot is nothing short of incredible, and the sequence during which McGuirk makes himself various drinks is my favorite in the entire run of the series. "Let me make you a specialty of the house, how 'bout that? Some of my own ideas: that's a Yeast Infection, rum and... milk; or uh, I'll make you a Dirty Frenchman... wine and olive juice"

The last few episodes of the series are arguably the best (how many shows can you say that about?) The laser eye surgery episode is another absolute gem.
