Kadokawa just released a compilation DVD of Kon Ichikawa on 11/21/2008
The DVD includes "Kyo" (1969) in Japanese, English, Italian language tracks,
"Kachikachi Yama" (1936), his first animated short (very inspired by Disney)
"Musume Dojoji" (1946), his marionette short film banned by the US occupational forces
47 commercials he made between 1966-2000, including Toyota, Bridgestone, Suntory, etc
a 64 page booklet with information, storyboards for Musume Dojoji, photos, etc.
There are no subtitles, but none are really required. Kachikachi Yama survives in a scratchy but watchable and stable print, although a large shot is missing toward the end, along with the ending title card. Musume Dojoji is in very good quality, with only damage at the beginning and ending of the 2 reels. It's nice to have these 2 films available finally.
