There are aspects of the Criterion Collection that totally puzzle me, like why they take money from Jerry Bruckheimer and why Quentin Tarantino's brilliance offends their better senses, but who are we kidding? If I didn't have a rare Criterion Collection edition of Paolo Pasolini's Salo, I wouldn't be able to shock visitors to my apartment with insane sex and torture under the guise of art.

Well, I'm officially an idiot.

When the news first broke about Criterion's 40% off sale, I immediately went to their store and put four box sets in my shopping cart. But because I didn't have the funds in my bank account at that moment, I decided to wait a little while. I just went to the store today to buy those box sets and they're no longer available. Seems I waited too long and they're out of stock. ](*,)

Still, I can't complain too loudly. I did get 12 single-disc titles: Closely Watched Trains, Beastie Boys Anthology, Story of a Prostitute, Unfaithfully Yours, Kicking and Screaming, Seduced and Abandoned, The Fallen Idol, Twenty-Four Eyes, The Honeymoon Killers, The Last Wave, The Cranes Are Flying, and Ballad of a Soldier. 17.97 USD each.

I don't know what is worst, the blog or the idiots on the comments section. How did this guy came up that Criterion was having financial troubles because they were having a 40% off sale?

But seriously, what happened to .com? I tried going to the site and is like it doesn't exist. I know that they were having hacker/spam problems last week because I recieved a PM from "wetgirl" offering me some sexual advice and it came from .com.

It's not that Criterion's business model is being co-opted. The real issue is that Criterion was simply running out of good films to re-release--they've been in business 20 years, after all, and the film business is only about 90 years old.

Congrats! With what you overpayed by not buying from DVDPlanet, you could have gotten a free upper-tier title and still had enough left over for a refreshing beverage

Looking at WhoIs, the owner of the domain let it expire on 11/13/08. They have like a month or so to renew it before it goes back to public domain. Want to buy it Chris and have complete control over the criterion forums?

I just got my Amarcord art print today, and I must say it is quite beautiful. Number 67/100. The detail is amazing. It's going to look sweet on my wall in a custom frame.

I wonder how feasible it would be for Criterion to have some sort of "Poster on Demand" service, where a person orders whatever cover art or poster they want, and Criterion has it printed and shipped. I don't know of many companies who do this, but I know that DeviantART does. Admittedly, they have a much larger userbase than Criterion, but from just thinking about it on the surface, I don't see much that would stop Criterion from doing this. They can obviously print up posters of the cover art, we've seen from office photos.
