EDIT: Les 5 Gentlemen maudits seems to finally be coming out too. This release has been postponed for a long while as you can see from this thread.

David is gonna leave a lot of money in Paris in october buying Duviviers from LCJ (only €12.95 for each film on Amazon.fr, BTW).
There is a third one coming out too. September 18 for this one (that made it to Kinsayder's top 10!):

The Cinémathèque francaise is showing L'Homme à l'hispano (1926) on march 2nd next year. This film was remade as a talkie by our friend Jean Epstein!

I just had a coffee with fellow Parisian Ann Harding who mentionned an upcoming Duvivier retrospective at the MoMA in may. Ann or somebody else will probably come back to this in good time.

Julien Duvivier's 1932 Poil de Carotte is being released on 24th February in Region 1.
It will be great to have this film to go with his Silent version.

I e-mailed Facets about 2 months ago about this and they confirmed they'd screwed up and despite giving the dates and cast of the 1932 version it is the 1925 Silent as the artwork attests.
They said they'd amend the information but apparently not.

Given that the story is treated almost alike, why don't you make a try at the good (but unsubbed) René Chateau DVD? Should be rewarding and not too hard to follow.

Gosh. I was in NYC a month too early!

Some rare stuff there: Even if I own copies of all the talkies except Le Petit Roi, most of the silents remain almost impossible to watch if you're not living in Paris and can catch an occational Cinémathèque française screening.

Whirlwind of Paris seems to be the biggest attraction here.

Some of them are. The others (especially the silents) are almost certainly prints from the CNC and the Cinematheque with soft subtitles. It's a can't-miss series in any case!

I watched Duvivier's "Anna Karenina" last night, and was surprised how good it was (including Leigh's performance). However, I want to abstain from any further comments for the moment, because what I watched was a German public-domain style disc which only contained a truncated version (93 mins.) as opposed to the R1 and R2 ones ( both 110 min. apparently). Looking at imdb and the amazon reviews, I learned that there's also an Australian disc apparently running the full 134 mins. I couldn't find any review, so can anyone confirm that the Aussie disc indeed has the full length cut? And how is the picture quality?

Thanks David, yes, that must be the disc. I suppose you haven't seen it? Shock Distribution...didn't they release that unwatchable disc of Greenaway's "Baby of Macon"? Makes me somewhat frightened, but then it seems to be the only full version of the film.

Great David, let us know when/if you manage to find a copy. However, I doubt that Shock licensed this from Fox, as Fox has released only a 110 min. version in the US. I read somewhere that the film was shortened for international release, and that must be the version Fox released. The film itself is a British production for Korda's London Films, and I suppose the original British cut is in the public domain, like many (or all?) Korda films.

Just watched Le petit monde de Don Camillo and enjoyed it immensely. Is it a bad thing that I liked this more than any American comedy I've seen the past several years?

A heads up that TCM will be showing ANNA in November. The running time is listed as 113m.
Not exactly 134m but somewhat more than 110 ...

With all of the hubabaloo going on in the '30s thread now would probably be the opportune time to ask what's the deal with the separate cuts of Anna Karenina. All I know is the there is multiple cuts out there and the one on American DVD is the shorter one.
