The "sci-fi shocker" is that alien spaceships are prone to terrible dandruff.

Is that alien (raider?) coming or going?

spoilers (?) below

imdb.com synopsis wrote:It's the end of yet another night at Hastings Supermarket, an idyllic family grocery store in Buck Lake, Arizona. But the normal monotony of rounding up shopping carts and settling out the cash drawers is broken at 11:07pm, just before closing when a group of masked and armed-to-the-teeth militants invades the store, immediately killing several of the employees and shoppers and holding the rest hostage. Though the hostage-takers at first appear to be robbers or terrorists, they reveal themselves to be a cadre of rogue scientists that has discovered and tracked an alien infestation to THIS STORE on THIS NIGHT, and they are determined to find out which of the survivors are extraterrestrials and end the invasion at any cost. Written by Anonymous
I thought briefly about putting spoiler tags around that. Then I realized that the movie probably ends with one of the rogue scientists untying a bandana to reveal a third eye on his forehead and I got mad. So here we are.

Okay, I'll admit it: That movie sounds amazing

Edited to add:
Bloody Disgusting Review wrote:All looks criminal and familiar until a thin, odd looking man who arrived with the armed gunman starts to grab people by the head, one-by-one, and "scan" them. His is psychic, and looking for aliens.

I'd like it better if unbeknownst to the scientists all of the aliens were the employees killed during the raid (that or they take a wrong turn and end up at the wrong store altogether), and the whole movie is nothing but people sitting in confused frustration. "I could have sworn there were aliens here!"

I like the idea of a "cadre of rogue scientists" though. It sounds like this could be the film to overturn the Professor Frink image of bumbling good natured boffins. I confidently expect the male scientists to be muscle bound gun toting types with selections of high brow quips while the sole female scientist has to be wearing a ludicrously revealing tight white lab coat (that makes the most of all those 'bending over microscope' shots!)

For taking what was obviously a beautiful image from one of the films, introducing us to it via the perfect first cover, then reducing it down in this disaster of a cover to a meaningless tiny repetitive glyph that will be completely wtf-ish for those who never saw the original cover.

Here's hoping for another change, although I'm afraid the cover would eventually become covered with neon colors and high contrast images à la Swimminghorses.

Supermarket (the former and much more suitable title for Alien Raiders) is actually a solid and quite entertaining little movie that's unfortunately betrayed by a lousy DVD cover that makes it look like one of Asylum's direct-to-video dumpers.

I couldn't find a large image for this cover.

A larger image can be found by clicking on the cover here.

I like how the choices seem to be baseball or soft-core homosexuality.
The way the "ballplayer" stands there in uniform amuses me to no end. And the cheesy way the faux bit of calligraphy crosses the bat to make a No Baseball sign.

From the synopsis:
City Without Baseball stars the real-life members of the Hong Kong Baseball Team in a daring, baring drama about baseball dreams, urban soul searching, and tangled relationships. Baseball is a nary-followed sport in Hong Kong and many locals don't know that the city actually has an official baseball team.

Heh, I watched this a couple of weeks ago because of the guys on the cover (and the full-frontal locker scenes). :-"
It's... a pretty lousy movie, but hey, their marketing worked on me!

[edit] There's a large version of the movie's poster, which is basically the same as the DVD, here.

Seriously, the only thing wrong with that cover is that one of the guys has clothes on.

I rather liked City Without Baseball -- it's basically a mash of three or four different genres that normally don't go together (not that playing up the locker-room homoeroticism is an earth-shattering revelation or anything) and it's fun seeing an obviously amateur cast go through such blatantly contrived mini-melodramas (I'd love to imagine that the Hong Kong baseball team goes through this stuff every day). Also the writer/producer/co-director is some guy named "Scud."
