I loved this movie. I was surprised that despite their age difference, Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn have pretty good on-screen chemistry.

Excellent. All the recent talk about Funny Face has made me dying to revisit it. I hope Paramount had the good sense to get Stanley Donen to sit down for an interview while they still can.

ouch. the single still in the background would've been elegant and perfect. the cutouts laid on top make it terrible

As held by me, though I would stress, most musicals are inherently sappy and that description is not accurate enough for me - 'superficial', 'dramatically lightweight' spring to mind when I recall the movie musicals I have seen. Musicals work better on stage, I feel, though in Cinema, you can show what cannot be seen from the seats with the eye.

Having said that, Funny Face is, unequivically, one of the most stunningly well designed, lit, and photographed films ever made. It's almost as mesmerizing as Audrey's eyes.

Has anyone picked up the new DVD yet? The Beaver review still hasn't convinced me to double dip even though it says it has a new transfer.

I hadn't thought about this movie in such a long time and I haven't watched it in years, but today I just started thinking about this film. I actually spent some time today searching everything I could find about this film on this board, and I loved reading your posts David about this film (and about The Band Wagon which I've never seen before but now I must after reading you and Michael discuss it on various threads).
