Re: Blindness (Fernando Meirelles, 2008)
I was definitely puzzled by the general negative reaction to this film. It was one of my 10 favorites of '08. It's no "Children of Men" to be sure, but it's no mere "Paycheck," either. Perhaps the relentless bleakness is what turned people off. But I think it captured many things quite effectively: that despite all of our co-called advancement/intellectual superiority, we're still basically animals; our tendency to let our emotions cloud our reasoning; our desire to take care of one group of people at the expense of other groups; etc. These are hardly original points, but I felt they were done in an itriguing manner.
