I've read Forever War, and it is magnificent - one of the key SF novels of the 70s. It's a direct riposte to books such as Starship Troopers which glorify war. It'll be interesting to see how it's tackled - my biggest fear is that it will be reduced to a series of spectacular combat sequences and leave out the 'dull' bits inbetween.
One thing that will probably change is the name given to the aliens - Buggers.
Oh, and there is a sequel - Forever Free - but that is very strange and not in the same league. I really can't see that one being filmed if the first one is a big hit.
