According to a source Jeffrey Wells spoke to at Cannes, this is coming out in 2009 and will contain a dinosaur sequence. But his source also says they are still raising money for the IMAX stuff, and with Avatar set to dominate screens in the fall, my guess is they will push the release to 2010.

Perhaps the standard theatrical release will come first, with the IMAX experience following on, perhaps co-inciding with the DVD. The IMAX film is, afterall, a slightly separate entitlty from the feature.

It sounds like there was a promo reel on display in Cannes, this must be approaching some form of completion. The various international distributors that they have now attached willpresumably now be pressing for the completion of the film. 2009 doesn't seem out of the question.

Conjecture on Malick's unknown opinions regarding the origin of the universe has been moved here.

Hopefully we get a trailer soon.

Anyone know how long pre-New World the first teaser/trailer appeared?

A year in advance.

Since this could very well hit before the end of the year, a trailer could potentially pop up out of nowhere, as with the Bad Lieutenant or There Will Be Blood promo videos.

I don't expect The Voyage of Time (or whatever it ends up being called) to be released until Mid 2010 at least.

No one knows what it's about or when it will be released. Not even the cast.

Coming in December from the new distributor, Apparition

This installment is also great. Malick seems to be a man exactly like his films.

Currently scheduled to be released December 23.

I'm guessing it will start limited and go wide as interest/critical response/awards season response dictates.

I know that Sony has a partnership with Apparition, and will be distributing their DVDs and whatnot, so that makes sense. Where did you find the 12-23 date?

The Playlist has the story on the release date here. The date is listed in EWs upcoming Fall Preview issue.

The date is actually December 25, which makes a lot more sense, being a Friday.

Why does that make more sense? Plenty of movies open on Wednesday, and it will give them a short jump on Sherlock Holmes, It's Complicated and the Alvin & The Chipmunks sequel that all open on Christmas Day.

That's a good point. I just mean that it makes sense that the date is actually the 25th, since it's a Friday, and obviously films usually release on Friday. It makes sense that the previously reported date was a misreading of a scan.

Wednesday is usually reserved for blockbusters like Harry Potter or Transformers Whatever.

Dinosaurs? I thought this was supposed to be a family drama, 'son-deals-with-the-sins-of-the-father' style joint?

If Robot Monster has taught us anything (and it has) it is that any movie, no matter how great, can be improved by the addition of dinosaurs. Even as a spliced-in non sequitur.

Entirely conjecture - as the source is the IMDB boards - but one poster there claims that the film's release may be delayed (not necessarily a surprise).

Not that I'm surprised but, if this is true, my day is ruined.
