An interview with actor Jason Kulas about the film and Mark Region's approach to shooting on 35mm with a limited budget.

Re: After Last Season (Mark Region, 2009)
Those who've seen the film all appear think that it is real, that it's is not simply 'bad' but really brain scratchingly bizarre and incomprehensible (someone said it seems to feel like being schizophrenic), and that it is a genuine, sincere effort.
I think The Room has been replaced.

Sounds like bullshit pretentiousness at best. I'm sure it'll end up being the subject of drinking games or some other such nonsense.

Re: After Last Season (Mark Region, 2009)
David Lowery's thoroughly bemused take.
This thing continues to escalate in fascination for me at least and for all the reasons David so adroitly points to.
Edit: And another response, this time from Film Monthly. Here autism rather than the usual schizophrenia is invoked as a possible aesthetic source and a potentially profitable analogous means of audiencing the film.

Re: After Last Season (Mark Region, 2009)
The plot thickens. Mark Region claims the film is a 100% sincere thriller, and also appears to have been extorted by a non-professional crew for a few million dollars.

Giving answers like "I was influenced by Dumb and Dumber" only confirms that this is performance art

Re: After Last Season (Mark Region, 2009)
This is the best part:
My vote is for sincere but inept.Filmmaker: Can you name some movies you’ve seen that made an impact on you and, perhaps, After Last Season?
Region: I have probably seen all the movies that people have seen

He's the cinematic equivalent of Sarah Palin, apparently.

I have a copy of this thing in hand, and have watched a few minutes... amazingly, the whole film is just like the trailer. Will report back.

I had forgotten this film even existed, but I'm glad to see it's available. I just snatched up the last copy (?) they had listed on Amazon - sold directly by the production company, natch. Your review is anxiously awaited.
Here's hoping it's worth it, but if nothing else I can feel good about myself for helping this guy recoup his $5mil. Happy holidays.
