Some excerpts from the film.

I'm sure this will only appeal to a handful of people but I have to say I'm pretty excited about this. Korine seems to have largely dispensed with narrative altogether, which in his case seems wise - his films work for me as an accumulation of moments, visions, moods, or in Herzogian terms, ecstatic truths. The way the camera's auto-iris is used in conjunction with a lamp in the basement excerpt is quite beautiful in its own way. Anyway, this movie looks to be total fish in a barrel for anyone not inclined towards Korine's work, but that's always been the case, and one of the most admirable things about his films in my opinion.

It seems like this is going to be a little bit like Julien Donkey-Boy in the sense that it's another "quick film" from Korine. I kind of feel like he's just trying to appease the people that thought Mister Lonely wasn't "Korine enough" or something. His next film is suppose to be a lot bigger and a lot more personal. I just hope it doesn't take him 8 years to make it.

I'd still love to see this, though.

Well, I think julien donkey-boy may be his most accomplished movie, but whether it's his best, I'm not quite sure; I've liked them all. I read somewhere that he'd be working on something else by the end of this year.

That comment reveals a lot of my feelings. I think a semi-non-narrative film by a director, succeeds. A film that features grainy film and quirky characters.

Based on film clips, I think a new film by the same director, with quirky characters, grainy video, and apparently no narrative, doesn't seem to succeed.

Would you like to know anything else? Please ask.

What exactly do you find unclear about "back it up with some reasoning"? You've been on this forum long enough, you should know we don't accept members coming in, posting one-line dismissive comments about movies, and then leaving without so much as an explanation.

Um, is that not the specialty of the board member with the Theresa Russell icon/fetish? Check out any one of his posts. Anyway, Sausage is right here; not only is Tark's comment silly and pointless (the guy didn't even see the movie he claims to dislike) his defensive response only served to dig his grave deeper. This exposes both jackasses, plain and simple.

This film is funny for about twenty minutes and after that it's a case of severely diminishing returns. More like a series of YouTube stunts played end-on-end rather than a film - even an unstructured, non-narrative one.

Even with its desperately low-fi, guerrilla aesthetic, there were plenty of crew to credit at the end. Though maybe that was a conceptual joke (if it wasn't, it should've been).

28 people walked out of the recent screening at the Era New Horizons festival in Wrocław - my spy in the auditorium tells me that they initially sneaked out quietly, but gradually made more and more of a show of Walking Out so that it became a grandiose statement. (The cinema didn't have bangable seats though, like Cannes).

When I saw it I was amazed to see that absolutely nobody walked out. Though a lot of people walked in late (like, 30 or 40 minutes late) and chuckled along as they got the joke that many minutes after the rest of the viewers had. I suspect the majority of the audience were there to be seen to be cool, and they were kept in their seats by the artificial gravity of their own hipness, but I missed the diversion of the huffing departures.

That or they knew it was only 70 minutes. Either way, I don't really see what's not to like here if the viewer is attune to experimental narrative cinema - it's ambitious and very creative in its dream symbol structuralism.

Act da Fool, a new short film by Korine. Love it - sort of Gummo meets Days of Heaven, by way of The Aluminum Fowl and George Washington.

While I'm here, Trash Humpers is out on DVD in the U.S. on September 21. Warp Films is handling the UK release and have a very cool looking special VHS edition available that's been personalized by Korine. You can also buy a 35mm print!
