New, "relationship-comedy/drama," with Mark Ruffalo and Amy Adams set to star. That's the gist of about a hundred articles posted recently.

Not exactly a huge leap for him, but he hasn't disappointed me so far.

Yeah I debated whether I should make a thread for this or not (I mentioned it in the new films in production thread) since there's no details, but I'll just more or less repeat what I said: My favorite currently working actress plus the writer/director who just realized his full potential with Margot equals one of my most anticipated new films.

Even if it were true (highly unlikely), that'd be nothing to be disappointed about. Margot is masterful.

I understand why Ruffalo wouldn't want to make a film right now but I'm guessing Amy Adams, whose price has gotten really high, wasn't willing to take a paycut to do the picture. Which is fine because can you imagine her and Ben Stiller in a movie as a couple?

Now, now, "Margot" may have been Baumbach's weakest effort to date (even the toss-off "Highball" was more satisfying), but it's still better than a lot of the crap out there. Whatever, whomever this next film may be or star, he's one of those current filmmakers whose work I'll always go see without hesitation.

That looks pretty good. "Life is wasted on people." I still can't help but think about how much more interesting this would be with Ruffalo/Adams.

This was a very good film, though not up with Baumbach's best. It marked my first Greta Gerwig film, and I was absolutely enchanted by her - she is so at ease in her own skin that she just melts into her part. Stiller, while obviously very famous and accomplished in certain ways, is just woefully miscast here. He makes his character so unappealing that I expected

far more catharsis than there actually was. I know Baumbach isn't necessarily someone who works with plot twists, but I expected Greenberg to get a phone call telling him that Florence had complications following her abortion that caused her to die, or something along those lines.

Greenberg needed something to shake him fucking loose from his narcissism, and I find the ending a bit hard to swallow as a result. Obviously, you can't tie a film like this in a neat little package, but what we got was very unsatisfying after having to put up with this awful motherfucker for two hours.

It's worth mentioning how wonderful Gerwig was, and how absolutely radiant she is. It's so refreshing to see a female lead like her, who seems legitimately approachable and thoughtful and multifaceted. Unlike the casting of Stiller, her presence in the film seems like a foregone conclusion (sorry Domino, Amy Adams wouldn't have worked in that part. She just wouldn't have. You'll see.)

Having seen several clips and trailers for this now (still waiting for it to show in my area), I'm already wondering what kind of subtletly and humility the vastly superior actor Mark Ruffalo would've brought to this role. Oh well. Still plan on seeing this when it finally makes it's way here.

mfunk is right. Greta Gerwig is absolutely amazing in this role. So much so that I wish it would have been about her character instead of Stiller's. Mark Ruffalo might have brought a little more depth and subtlety to that character, but I honestly can't imagine anyone else but Gerwig in her role.

I want to see it again before I really form an opinion of it, but I don't think it's a better film than Margot.

Sometimes the better actor isn't the better answer and I think this is one of those times. Both Stiller and Gerwig, as mentioned before in her case, are phenomenal with their characters. If only because I seem to be the only one here who liked Stiller's performance I'll give him his dues. He brings a relateable creepiness to a horror villain/protagonist like role. He hits this slimy pathetic note without turning things into caricature. This is truly his best performance ever and the only one I've seen where he fully melts into the character. I think this is best shown in the scene where he is talking to his brother on the phone. He's not the good guy of the conversation if one could be parsed out, yet his actions are within a throwing distance of understandable. I'm probably just rambling now, but oh well. For me at least this is Baumbach's best yet.
