That's true. I recently purchased this import version at a closing FYE and it's something that Paramount could have easily released to appease fans. According to several sources, Viacom acquired the rights in 1997. It may be then just plain laziness or just corporate idiocy what is holding a release of this film.

I believe I saw information on another forum indicating that there were legal issues holding up the release.

On a thread from a few years ago on HTF, Martin Blythe at Paramount confirmed that they own the title, but rights issues are holding up a release.

Let's just hope the release date sticks and that this arrives on BluRay as well.

As disappointing as this is, it could always be worse; as far as we know, the film's rights have not reverted to a movie theatre in Colorado or anything.

Would it kill them to release this on BluRay at the same too? Argh. Looks like I'm going to have to keep waiting.

I've given up on putting this on my shelf. TCM have showed it five or six times this year. And I've watched them all. The only way Paramount could renew my interest in this title, is if they gave the rights to Criterion.

A Blu-ray version is up for pre-order on amazon.com. It's undated but rumored for February. Still no page for a DVD version though :) (Yes, obviously it would come out on both formats if it does)

It will be hilarious if it came on Blu-ray before it's released on DVD.

Don't know how reliable this may be, but Wal-mart.com is showing a listing for the African Queen for DVD and Blu-ray coming on February 23, 2010.

Hepburn's memoir is a fantastic read, and I'm lukewarm on the film. For once, a deluxe edition that's actually (maybe) worth the price!

I may buy this for the book (which I've not read), then give away the disc as a gift, assuming the price is right.

Not going to buy it. I'm saving up for my colonoscopy when I turn 50, I don't need one before then.

Beaver.

It looks great to my eyes, but what do the Forum's experts say? Has Cardiff's work been done justice?
