Is Streep being fuzzily softened while Redford is over sharpened meant to reflect on the DVD vs Blu debate?

A drunken Burl Ives clumsily knocking into Guinness's shoulder: "Drinksshh anyone?!?"

Guinness: "Not now my good man, I'm trying to shoot someone here. And by the colour of you, you should maybe not have another either."

O'Hara, saucily shaking her glass at Ives, making the ice cubes tinkle: "Forget the prude - I'm running dry over here!"

Malcolm X in Louis Malle's "The Fire Within"

Image

The original snappercase had the iconic "X" which is one of the simplest, most powerful movie posters ever. The 2 disc kinda sucked, and now Warner makes Denzel a marked man....

Just leave it be!

And by the way, apparently, this new re-release, done quietly by Warner, crams the 3 hour plus film, with the making of documentary, the 10 deleted scenes, the trailer, and commentary all on 1 disc as opposed to the older disc. Who said compression wasn't a problem?!

Just get the old 2-disc, which had all that plus the excellent Oscar nominated documentary "Malcolm X" which is sadly absent from this one. Essential stuff, really.

The horribleness of those Martini film covers have been discussed here already several pages back.

agreed. In fact i'll raise you one and say that it's a fucking great cover. Too bad the 2 disc SE has all the material I could possibly want - especially the X doc - and this is actually a step down...which is retarded.

This one's pretty great. That ladder must really be digging into Genevieve's shoulder, and Douglas looks like a cross-eyed hunchbacked imbecile with a hugely deformed right arm. (Apologies if that's a spoiler - for this or any other Michael Douglas movie!)

The "Malcolm X" cover:

hmm, ok. It's not the worst of the worst definitely, but I just don't like it.

I think it's pretty clear that Jamie Foxx got hooked on smack while making the Ray Charles biopic....he's only done movies you'd HAVE to be high to agree to since.

The redbox rental service seems to need to make mock-up covers for some of their choices. I'm not clear if it is a rights issue, or what.
In any case their images are more amusing than offensive. In fact I appreciate the highly minimalist neutered look, it sort of helps alleviate the bombast of the original marketing campaign. It could even be interpreted as a commentary on the generic Hollywood product, even if that isn't what was intended.

That dead eyed, pleading expression desperately attempting to communicate its plight is quite chilling...and the whale looks depressed too.

And 'Escape From Pirate's Cove' sounds like a particularly uninspired title of an Arthur Ransome or Enid Blyton book. Either that or a euphemism for some unmentionable act.

EDIT: Temporarily blinded by Beau Bridges' gaudy technicolour dreamcoat I've just noticed what can I can only assume to be a comic relief penguin in the background.
