Is it just me or do I never, ever want to read the words Phallogocentric (Does he mean "phallocentric"?) or Post Modern again. Ever.

The article is even more depressing than the film.

Either use is fine. Post Modern is often written Postmodern as as well. Re: the analysis, I disagree with you, but that's fine too; I actually quite enjoyed the piece. Some of us do love our critical theory. But to each his own.

There have been bigger surprise releases lately.

This is a weird release, technically speaking. LVT shot this digitally at 25fps (weird choice just to make PAL conversion easy, I guess), and it is 104 minutes at that speed. It was shown on 35mm at 24fps and it is 108 minutes at that speed. The Danish blu-ray release is 50i to conform to the 25fps speed which must have been originated from the digital master, while there is a Polish Blu-Ray that is 24p, which must have come from a 35mm telecine (the planned American release also lists the length at 108 minutes, so this might also adhere to the 24p speed). I would love to read a comparison review between these two.

#-o It didn't have any distribution troubles in the U.S. Antichrist played in theatres across the country and cable on demand from IFC. For all we know, it could be a Criterion release later this year.

So after hearing about "scissors" and "self castration" I of course immediately figured Dafoe's character performs this on himself. So, seeing as how that's one thing I would have an issue to seeing on screen, I prepared myself mentally for just that. Imagine my horror when I found out this is NOT what happens.

The European Bluray is excellent. It can easily be a demo disc, and if you show this to anyone who doesn't have a bluray player yet, they will probably be too horrified to buy one now.

I know a lot of people love this film, but I can't just see the appeal. But good for Criterion. All the showings in Los Angeles for this film were crowded and it's few midnight showings were just as crowded. I've met severally people who have just been waiting for a DVD release and here it is. This film is instant money in the bank.

While the subject matter might be offensive to some, this film happens to have some of the most beautiful cinematography captured on screen. I cannot wait to own this.

Antichrist was one of my favorite movies last year, but I actually don't see myself buying the DVD (or Blu). It's just not a film that I see myself returning to again and again. Once was enough to last me a while.

Hard to wait until fall, but it's good to see "Antichrist" practically confirmed. One of the most thought-provoking films I've seen in the last few years in the cinema.

I can't see the above-mentioned connection to "Gone to Earth", but of course would like to see that film (or any other Powell & Pressburger) enter the collection, too. It's not very gutsy, though, more of an old-fashioned kind of English beauty.

I don't share Criterion's (and evidently some forum members') love for Von Trier. As far as I'm concerned, Border Radio, Armageddon, Howard's End, Ride With The Devil, Koko et al have got new company on the shitlist if Antichrist is confirmed.

"Antichrist" being mentioned in the same breath as "Howards End".... never thought I'd live to see this. And I don't even have such a great love for von Trier in general, though I respect what he's doing.

While I don't think anyone can say they "enjoyed" Antichrist, there hasn't been a film in years that has stuck with me quite so much as that one has. I'll buy it on Blu in a heartbeat, even if only for the supplemental material and gorgeous photography. If Criterion sees fit to include a dozen commentary tracks, I'm sure I'll sit through every single one.

I'd mention this in the same breath as Salo much quicker than with Koko.
