Deliberately is one thing, but as part of an otherwise great set is another. I mean, I wouldn't own Topaz under normal circumstances but I didnt avoid the Masterpiece Collection because it was included.

to start, I was half joking about not allowing III in my house...Had I happened across an insane deal on the box I probably would have bit, but since my dad bought it right off I didn't even have to consider it. I am serious in that I would prefer just having I and II on blu alone than the box w/ III simply because III sucks. I don't see what is so crazy about that.

You infer quite a bit on my willingness to pay full price for the things as well. I don't see it as a financial suicide mission - quite the opposite since I can surely wait and find a good deal on the both of them...I expect when I do buy them it will be in the $30 range total since I'll wait for the right coupon or sale...I have tremendous patience for catalog stuff - while as I said, my dad already owns the set and will gladly lend me the disc of extras should I desire to view them. Extras are just that to me, and I rarely have the time to view them once, let alone multiple times. I don't need to own them. Again, a pretty far out thing to say, I know.

So lighten up francis...I was kidding and you needn't lash out over such silliness. I'm not a completest when it comes to these things, and prefer having the films I actually like in my collection. tis crazy I know, but i'm goofy like that.

What is the best course of action if you bought it brand new from a third party via amazon? Seems that no matter what, this is going to cost me more money, even if just the few bucks in postage to mail it back. Do you think I can just take it to a chain, claim I paid in cash and don't have a receipt? And they'll replace it?

I must say, that's some gorgeous cover art. I know the film has fewer and fewer defenders as time goes by, but I still think it's pretty good. Certainly not worthy of a Best Picture Oscar, but I think it's taken some unfair backlash.

Paramount have released a remastered version of Gladiator in Holland. Screenshot comparisons between the old and new Blu are here:

Make sure though you buy the version with the 10th anniversary sticker on it since it has identical artwork to the old release.

Is this planned for a U.S. release? Or will they stick to the horror that is the extant one? Those screenshots are amazingly telling. From the blue tinge to everything to the rampant DNR & EE, it truly is inexcusable what they did to it. Look, for instance, at how artificial the trim on Joaquin's robe is in the old one vs. the remaster, which has nice natural texture of the fabric, or the skin tones in the third image and the textures of the stones in the fourth. It's night and day.

Actually, it's Universal who released it in Holland. Germany, Sweden, some other European places have placeholders or release dates, but strangely they are all not coming out the same time for some reason....
