I don't know, I glance at that last cover and feel like I've seen the whole film. Maybe it's a bad cover because it doesn't sell the product, but it saves me the trouble of actually watching the film.

It's got the orange comedy halo. It must be hilarious.

Again, the concept of the film itself is dumb but the cover is obviously well-executed

Re: Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 3-D)
When I unwrapped these earlier today, I thought I must have poured my money down the drain - with cover art this bad, how could the Blu-rays be anything other than dreadful? The first is Wajda's Ashes and Diamonds, for the record - it's not at all obvious from the artwork!

Thankfully, while the menus are equally terrible (they're based on the same artwork), the transfers themselves are stunning, so I'll tactfully assume they blew their entire budget on restoration and encoding and only had a couple of złotys left over for the packaging.

I imagine that it comes from the same people that made Batman: A Porn Parody.

I recall way back when seeing a porno in high school sometime in the 80s called Dickman and Throbbin. It was brilliant.dx23 wrote:I imagine that it comes from the same people that made Batman: A Porn Parody.

I was able to see this in person the other day. If a single image of smoking Welles wasn't enough for you, it is repeated on the back and spine! (Hoping this hasn't been posted before)

You don't see too many DVD covers with pull quotes from the film's director.

Oh, dear, it's one of those "introduction by Tony Curtis" titles. I've seen one from that series (I can't recall the film, alas) and Curtis blathers on & on about a film he was unconnected with and... well, let's just say it can make you long for a Peter Bogdonavich intro.
And it comes with a trailer for "Orson Welles' COMPULSION" ... !

I have that version, and yes, its terrible. Looks like something you'd order off late night TV from Time Life. Welles' name is on it at least 10 times.

Re: Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 3-D)
The photo, incidentally, shows Welles as "LeChiffre" from the Peter Sellers comedy CASINO ROYALE (five years after THE TRIAL was filmed). Still, that's better than the recent DVD cover of Peter Brook's KING LEAR TV production which features a photo of Welles from nearly two decades after the show was produced!
I believe that pull-quote has been used somewhere on every home video edition of THE TRIAL. While it is an accurate quote for it's time (circa 1962/63), Welles changed his tune once CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT was released four years later.

Re: Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 3-D)
Welles was, among other things, a master of self-promotion. He probably said the same thing about every film he made just as it was about to be released (& on CHIMES I think I agree with him).
"THE STRANGER is the best film I ever made."

Re: Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 3-D)
I know. After years of using the terrific poster artwork for both of these films on pretty much every VHS and DVD edition, they pull this shit for their Blu-ray debuts? I guess we should have known after they did the same thing with Christmas Vacation.HistoryProf wrote:oh son of a BITCH.

Don't think Cop Out looks all that bad, but that little picture of giant Kevin Smith in the corner.... sticker I would hope.
