The Zwigoff and Sternberg covers are excellent, undecided about the Orpheus artwork. It's a good month for both titles and covers (will be getting the Sternberg trio and Orpheus on Blu).

Does anyone know what font Criterion used for the Vivre sa vie packaging?

Crumb on Crumb. They may be the greatest cover art in the collection.

A great month. Love the Orpheus art work and totally excited about the Von Sternberg box.

I'm not a fan of it either....but that might be from one of the original posters for the movie.

Confirmed.

I'm pretty sure its Monod Regular

Type in VIVRE SA VIE in the sample text box:

http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/resident/monod/regular/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Pialat cover is a riot, especially compared to the MOC. It's like Goofus and Gallant

am I the only one that sees the following error instead of any of the cover images? Are they available anywhere else?

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://criterion_production.s3.amazonaws.com:80/product_images/1023/529_box_348x490.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The following error was encountered:

* Invalid URL

Some aspect of the requested URL is incorrect. Possible problems:

* Missing or incorrect access protocol (should be `http://'' or similar)
* Missing hostname
* Illegal double-escape in the URL-Path
* Illegal character in hostname; underscores are not allowed

Not sure the minimalist Sternberg covers match his opulent style. At least they're elegant.

i am getting errors on all images at Criterion's website...dunno if it's just me for some reason (i'm at a Holiday Inn in Montana, so it's possible)...but if anyone else is having problems and is as curious as I was you can see all the covers here - I LOVE the Louie Blouie and Crumb covers. pure awesome. LB is maybe my new favorite overall, and takes away a bit of the sting of them not just putting that as a special feature on Crumb at the upper tier price point.

Well, it is Montana and I know in some rural areas being "on the lamb" helps make up for a less than successful date night (you need an extra large pair of Wellies for the rear legs), but I think you meant "on the lam". :wink: O:)

well there was pecorino romano on my pappardelle at dinner tonight...so a bit of lamb goin on ;)

i guess i'm the only one that can't see any of the images at .com? no problems anywhere else on the interwebs...very odd.

I do like the Pialat - very similar to the Malles, but it's understated simplicity works for me. Orpheus is a bit much, and I certainly don't share the enthusiasm of criterioncast on that one. I like the Sternbergs - though again a bit redolent of the Robeson box...a little boring really. Last Command looks like an Eisenstein film though by the image they chose ;)

i wouldn't miss it for the world...it's only one of the most anticipated monthly events in my life!

Is Madoff hiding out in a ranch out here or something? I'm in Missoula, so let me know if he's in the area, i'll go spit on him.

Definitely. Though it's better than the MOC atrocity.

I like the CC Pialat cover, but the MoC cover is better.

Diggin' the Zwigoff covers, too.

For me, the jury's out on the new Black Orpheus cover, but when I first saw it, I couldn't help thinking, "Poor Criterion; they get ripped for not using original posters for their cover art, and now when they do, they're still gonna catch heat for it."

The Orpheus cover is not only a classy original poster, from an era when painted posters were the norm, but suits the movie very well, like an advertisement for a somewhat somber carnival. Yes it is "dated", but so is the film.

I don't think it's a longshot that we'll see it eventually. I'd be curious to see if Crumb would do that coverart too, if only to see how he draws Scarlett Johansson.

Why would Criterion hire Robert Crumb to draw the cover to a film based off a Daniel Clowes comic?

For continuity throughout Zwigoff's films in the collection (see: Wes Anderson's releases)

Sue me, but I loved the Black Orpheus cover the moment I saw it. It conveys everything that's great about the film: the color, the culture, the celebration, the fantasy, the movement, and the mythic origins. It may not be original, but it works. It's everything I wanted to see in the Red Shoes cover.

I would love to comment on the covers but I can't see them due to DNS lookup error of which my Internet provider is investigating. :|
