Huh. I'd love to finally see some Ghatak in the collection (although TITASH is my least favorite, I'd still buy it) but I dunno about a box set with a bunch of other unrelated films. Hopefully they'll be packaged in such a way that I can easily eBay the ones I don't want to keep.

It makes business sense to me that they would package several unrelated films together. Most people will want only one or two titles from the set.

I'd buy all of those boxes, myself, no matter how awkwardly their contents are ordered. There's not a thing in the World Cinema Foundation line-up that doesn't rub my nerd parts in all the right ways.

I don't think it will be Eclipse, since we're already talking some shorts (the Abdelsalam one, which will no doubt accompany The Night of Counting the Years), and there are no-brainer extras for the taking (with Scorsese's name possibly the biggest selling point of the entire enterprise, of course he's going to talk about the films), quite apart from the fact that most of these films demand some kind of contextualisation. It would certainly be an atypical Criterion set, so they might set up another line / brand for these films. On the other hand, the Criterion brand is also an important part of the equation. In an ideal world, we might end up with something halfway between an Essential Arthouse box and a Treasures from American Film Archives one. Whatever they do, bring it on, and stick "Volume One" in the title!

Why would you think this (The Last Wave) would be one of the titles coming next year, expecially when we have titles like Rules of the Game and La Strada not on Blu yet? Just buy it. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. It is safe to say that this is a minor catalog title with probably no immediate release priority.

I don't know why...but for some reason I had it in my head that it was originally mentioned as one that would be...that's what I was asking, as it apparently IS a figment of my imagination...which I suspected. So thanks for the clarification

After watching my Stagecoach BD last night, and Make Way for Tomorrow the day before, both Bogdanovich interviews were obviously recorded at the same time. He mentions Cheyenne Autumn on the Stagecoach disc and there are some screen shots from the film. I'd wager a good C-note that Cheyenne is in the pipeline for a DVD and BD release. Sorry if this was already mentioned I couldn't find anything.

Not going to happen. It's owned by Warner Bros. and it's still part of the Ford boxset the released a few years ago.

which is a shame as its a 70mm film and would look fabulous on bluray, but it's probably very low on WBs priority list for blu.

I do think the other ford films that were taken out of the box are probably in the pipeline.

I'm also hoping we get some Hitchcock before the end of the year.

That isn't the problem, but it is that Blow Up is Warner property, whom doesn't license out their stuff. This is too bad because they have the greatest and biggest collection of American film in their library.

It was part of their short-lived "Festival Series" on the Auteurs website. They did a month of Killer movies and since, as noted above, their former sister label Home Vision had released the DVD (and Janus presumably has the rights), they tossed it in without feeling the need to bother with a new DVD of their own.

At the Mystery Train event yesterday at the Wexner Center in Ohio, the Criterion rep (I think it was Lee Kline) let it slip that Criterion is working on 'Something Wild' by Jonathan Demme.

Great news to know it's a hundred percent sure! In their pre-Facebook days, I e-mailed them a good five times about Something Wild. Almost all of Demme's films have very good editions except this one. They hinted that they were working on this on their Facebook page a few months ago, but again, glad to here it's a for sure thing!

I've always felt it was among the most underrated films of the eighties. Incredibly funny first half, dark and disturbing last half, fun performance by Jeff Daniels, a song by David Byrne and Celia Cruz and a world music soundtrack by John Cale. Glad to here this one!
