He doesn't mean the BD digi cases which were terrible. Most people liked the special digi of the DVD release of this film which was very different, and it would be cool if they replicated it on a small scale for the BD.

The Mr Lawrence cover is one of their best in 2010 - just a shame I don't feel strongly enough about the film to want to own it. Here's hoping they come up with a good cover for The Thin Red Line.

Surprised that Hausu didn't make it but it makes sense to hold it back until Halloween. Can't see them doing an all-out horror month but Kwaidan on Blu would be most welcome. More upgrades than genuinely new titles this month but I'm a happy camper: the Malick is the one to get and I've never seen Charade so what better opportunity than to do so in 1080p?

This is more for the packaging thread, but as By Brakhage and The Leopard show, Criterion have finally gotten the blu-ray digipack issues sorted out. They used to suck, but they're fantastic now.

They ARE fantastic - for MULTI-DISC releases! The Man Who Fell To Earth had an awesome SD slipcase package, an annoying digipak Blu, but the plastic Scanavo replacement case works just fine integrating the artwork, and I have no doubt Breathless will work out just the same.

Criterion hasn't done an all-horror month since October 2000 when they (probably accidentally) released Sisters and Kwaidan a week apart, back when they only released maybe one or two titles a month.

Criterion should definitely run with the theatrical poster for the cover of the Thin Red Line. Don't know how to post it but it's the one with the extreme close up of the guys faces but mostly it's just their helmets.

There is no way Criterion is going to go with an original poster for that film. Just no way - the title is too evocative, the imagery in the film at-times abstract. It's also fairly high-profile for them. So I'm sure they put a designer on it to create something new (results forthcoming). I'm looking forward to the face of Jesus on the lower half and the face of Nick Nolte on the upper half, with a miniscule rouge line running between them.

Or, a la Red Shoes, it'll be a closeup of Jesus's face looking distressed, and the font color will be RED for the word Red.

Not that it remotely matters, but Kurosawa already has three Criterion Blus available (Kagemusha, Yojimbo, Sanjuro), with a fourth (Seven Samurai) due by the end of the year. Godard has two Criterion Blus currently available (Pierrot le fou, Vivre sa vie), with a third (Breathless) due by the end of the year.

when has obvious photoshopping stopped them before? The horrendous Secret Honor cover springs to mind - those awful, cartoonish foreground items, the blurry background, the fake rips and tears. Yech. That TRL poster has nothing on that.

I like the re-vamped Charade cover, but I do sort of miss the multicolored text from the original. I thought it really captured the playful tone of the film.
