Perhaps your talking about the prints, but it would be nice to get it on Blu Ray in the correct aspect ratio.Roger Ryan wrote:Apart from doing a 4K scan (or whatever number they're up to now) for a HD release on Blu-ray, I can't imagine there's anything more one could do to make this film look better than it does (and it looks phenomenal).

I'm afraid that the only aspect ratio anyone's gonna see this one in is the Storaroed 2.00 : 1 revisionist aspect ratio.

I agree; my enthusiasm for the image quality does not extend to the modified aspect ratio.Peacock wrote:Perhaps your talking about the prints, but it would be nice to get it on Blu Ray in the correct aspect ratio.Roger Ryan wrote:Apart from doing a 4K scan (or whatever number they're up to now) for a HD release on Blu-ray, I can't imagine there's anything more one could do to make this film look better than it does (and it looks phenomenal).

From Blu-ray.com--
In my quick search of the News section, I don’t think “Juan” has provided any recent news about Apocalypse Now Redux.
Given that, I’d like to throw out a bit of good news to fans of the film. It is currently undergoing a new HD master from a new scan of the available film element. Watch for the remastered product in the future on Blu-ray.

Excellent news! Here's hoping this doesn't turn into another Last Emperor-scale disappointment so far as aspect ratio is concerned in what's sure to be an otherwise stunning new release in Blu.Cash Flagg wrote:From Blu-ray.com--In my quick search of the News section, I don’t think “Juan” has provided any recent news about Apocalypse Now Redux.

Re: Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier
Yes, it will almost certainly be 2:1. The good news, I think, is that Zoetrope generally does all of their own dvd mastering, supplement production, etc. They will likely just turn it over to Lionsgate for replication and distribution. So while the aspect ratio will continue to be compromised, we probably don't have to worry about Lionsgate fucking things up.

No specifics out yet, but there will be a 2-disc and 3-disc edition. Both cuts included and the 3-disc will have 9 hours of features.

Re: Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier
As pointed out in the Blu-ray General thread, the aspect ratio is listed as 2.39:1 - have Coppola and Storaro decided to return to the original theatrical ratio?!

Re: Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier
Unless I'm missing something, the press release didn't specify 2.39:1, so I'm not going to get excited about it. As far as I can tell, the Blu-ray.com page simply lists the "original aspect ratio" as 2.39:1, not the aspect ratio of the disc itself.

Same. Or when it's confirmed by a source other than IGN. I also hate that the 3-disc set gets a bad photoshop cover, while the 2-disc gets the original poster.swo17 wrote:I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah, the 2 disc art is far better. Should have used this for the 3 disc.

I'm not a fan of either cover, to be honest. I would have been happy if they just had the logo against a black background. I really hope that both versions of the film aren't split over the two discs like the Complete Dossier edition.

IGN says this is the first time they've ever been presented in 2.35:1 on home video, but my worn VHS copy may have to disagree. But either way, I hope this is the first battle won against Storaro's revisionism. But as Swo17 said, I'll believe it when I see it.

With the storage capacity of Blu-ray, they wouldn't have to resort to splitting the film to maintain picture quality, right?flyonthewall2983 wrote:...I really hope that both versions of the film aren't split over the two discs like the Complete Dossier edition.

Why wouldn't you want the two versions split up? They're long movies and the more space available the better the quality, right?

He means the first halves of both cuts on one disc and the second halves on the other. The horror indeed.

Re: Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier
This actually didn't bother me since the break point wasn't completely awkward, like a lot of the Warner DVDs that do the same. I had the film on laserdisc and my dad had it on CED so I guess it wouldn't have felt right if I didn't have to get up to change something while watching. Shit, it might be really weird to get this on Blu-ray and actually be able to sit and watch the whole thing without ever having to get up.

I may have to disagree with your worn VHS copy. Don't know whether the BR will ring true, but there has been no official release in 2.4 of this movie, ever.Grand Wazoo wrote:IGN says this is the first time they've ever been presented in 2.35:1 on home video, but my worn VHS copy may have to disagree. Re: Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier
Hm, perhaps it's not exactly that, but it's damn close. I remember doing comparisons after purchasing the complete dossier and my VHS had much more information on the sides of the frame and looked to be about 2.35:1. I'd love to check, but my VHS copy is currently vacationing at my parents house.TedW wrote:I may have to disagree with your worn VHS copy.
