That's certainly underwhelming.

Not a DVD cover but hilariously connected to the film industry:

Is there really an audience for this? Or for film novelizations in general? Sure, I read the E.T. novelization when I was 11, but most people don't read any books anymore.

EDIT: Nevermind. This book was published in 2004. Except for kid's movies, almost nobody publishes (or reads) novelizations anymore.

Matt, didn't you read the news last week of that guy who got arrested at Comic Con for stabbing his friend with a pen because his friend wouldn't let him sit in the front row at the new Resident Evil movie presser. I'm pretty sure he's got the novelization. Probably 2 copies, one to keep in mint condition and get graded by CGC.

The artform isn't entirely dead. I noticed The Last Airbender being novelized there on amazon and, I can't imagine how but, this has over a dozen positive reviews. Also, who wouldn't pay eleven dollars to hear the Audio Book version of the Alien 3 novelization? Lance Henriksen could buy all the Eminem CDs he could want with the cash.

Yeah, Alan Dean Foster has been auctioning his services off to every sci-fi property imaginable for decades. He and Max Allan Collins have had the novelization niche practically all to themselves.

I think I would have enjoyed The Phanton Menace a lot more if it had random scenes from Predator in it.

Whoever compiled that doesn't seem to realize that these aren't actual people writing cover copy, but just random reviews pulled off the internet.

I see a fair amount of misspellings, negative quotes and other mistakes here in China.

One of my favorites was Citizen Kang.

Will Ferrell's Elf had a large review quote: "Curiously flaccid."

Then for a while there were a number of covers which had a good-sized white space which said something like:
Type in your rottentomatoes review here.
Then click the Save button below to publish.
Actually what was quite common, especially for the back covers of newer movies, was to have the director and cast info for an entirely different film.

So you might get nonsense such as: 13 Going on 30 directed by Milos Forman, starring Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher, etc.

No wonder Drew Barrymore looks freaked out if Adam Sandler expects fisting in every one of 50 dates.

It's comforting to realize that the other two must then be Spike Milligan & Harry Secombe...

It couldn't be more embarrassing. Completely awful. Especially after seeing the MOC.

Why is that so bad? It's not terribly imaginative, I'll grant, but "embarrassing" seems like vast overstatement to me.

It isn't "embarrassing" at all. People on this board have a tendency to overstate things. Of course, given this thread's title....
