Yep, it's a real threat for the Sherwoods. Why in the world they would go out of their way to screw over the consumers who sought out their machines specifically for these features is beyond me

I don't know if there's a better place to put this, but I recently got a copy of The Informant on BD that came with a digital copy...that expires next year. As if digital copies weren't a stupid enough idea to begin with.

They're both ridiculous, but unfortunately those combo packs do seem to help out some with blu-ray sales numbers. (When you see blu-ray vs non-blu-ray sales numbers, the ones with the highest percent of blu-ray copies sold often are the ones that had a dvd included in the package.)

I bought Amadeus on blu-ray, and it also came with a digital copy (So that I can watch bits of Amadeus whenever I'm on the go). The digital copy, however, was already expired. I contacted Warners, but they politely told me to go fuck myself. So that was nice. Same thing with The Matrix.

I'm wondering, since the file is clearly on the actual disc, if someone knows a way of "hacking" it off?

Those things are apparently really hard to crack. If you have a BD drive in your computer you can just rip it. Otherwise, you'll have to illegally download the movie to get the digital copy you paid for.

Is there any way aside from custom firmware to make the PS3 region-free... ? Really don't want to invest in another BD player simply for MoC's Metropolis, so after seeing the half-assed specs (and artwork, blech) on the Kino release I'm hoping for a miracle option.

Actually, I believe region coding is still undecided for MoC's Metropolis, so perhaps you should point your miracle wishing in that direction for the time being.

Kind of anxious about this, I had a friend of mine much more likely to get a straight answer contact Kino to see if they'd reached an "agreement" at this point. I paraphrase, but the question was a basic, "In line with your previous BD releases, will the upcoming Metropolis also be region-free?

Now that I got a Sherwood, I've decided to no longer sympathize with anyone who posts regarding region coding concerns, and instead respond to them with a financially unrealistic and unhelpful suggestion: Just buy a region free player d00d!

There's quite a few, from Denon, Marantz, OPPO, have players capable of SACD playback.

I would be one (having in the past been one of the more vocal opponents of the new format I now have several BR's from different regions but no player). The choice becomes limited when you want multi-region BR capabilities as well.

In my country Cambridge Audio is the only company who offers such an option. The reviews I've read of the particular player describe it as a capable but not really audiophile player (having a large music collection with DVD-A's and SACD's the sound reproduction is a serious issue to me).

I guess I'll have to wait.

Just get a Sherwood BDP-5004. You'll be getting rid of your region locked player for one eventually anyway. Please learn from my mistakes.
