It's tough to say which is my favorite but I love how disconcerting it is to see a naked, sweaty Herbie Mann clasping a flute on the Push Push cover.dx23 wrote:Although this aren't actually DVD covers, I think some of you will apreciate this awful LP/CD covers. Here is the link:

All I could think of was the line "Push push in the bush" from Adaptation (when Nicholas Cage's twin is talking about him and his girlfriend)Nihonophile wrote:It's tough to say which is my favorite but I love how disconcerting it is to see a naked, sweaty Herbie Mann clasping a flute on the Push Push cover.dx23 wrote:Although this aren't actually DVD covers, I think some of you will apreciate this awful LP/CD covers. Christian Crusaders does it for me. Just think how Kingdom Of Heaven would have been improved with these guys instead of Orlando Bloom.dx23 wrote:Although this aren't actually DVD covers, I think some of you will apreciate this awful LP/CD covers. Here is the link:

Yeah that superman cover is hideous. They probably don't have the original soundtrack on there, either.
To hazard a guess, I'm betting translating "superman" would come too close to the Nazi misappropriation of Nietzche for Russian tastes. That, or maybe it was cool to have names transliterated when the film was released there.
Or maybe it isn't the Superman we're all thinking it is, and it's instead a remake with a properly proletarian Superman saving the workers from evil capitalists?

Not to spoil your theory, be a stickler, and go totally off-topic all at the same time, but many English words go untranslated in Russia, especially those related to pop culture. They sound snappier and "the kids" prefer them to whatever the insanely long Russian variants would be.
Businessman = biznesman
Super = super
Chicken McNuggets = Chiken Maknaggetz
etc.

I think they're shocked that their skin and hair suddenly lost all its texture for no apparent reason.N. Hella confusing that cover. Given me a headache.
That or they're wondering why that guy who replaced Bela Lugosi in "Plan 9" by covering his face all the time is stalking them.
