They just slapped the poster art for the new release on there- it's dull, but it's not embarrassing. Compared to some of the horrors Kino has put on covers, it's not bad at all.

Plus the MoC design is gorgeous, contender for artwork of the year, and so any rival release was always going to pale in comparison.

that's actually one of their better efforts. most of their releases look like they had some 8th grader design them. They are almost universally bad. For as cool as their catalog is, it is hard to understand how they can be so bad at designing covers for the films.

Kino's "Metropolis" cover is hideous, indeed. Especially when you compare it with MoC's fantastic cover...

It's a book cover, but for a likely near-future bestseller, Simon & Schuster probably could have done better than a circa-1999 DVD photoshop job:

Is that a family of whimsically dressed mice trying to catch a ride on the 'copter?

Criterion should release this just to get a new cover. What a disservice to a great film

I have a friend who is an animal trainer and last night she was speaking enthusiastically about a movie she rented from Redbox because, refreshingly, they used real tigers rather than reverting to CGI. While she was talking about it all I could think was, "I bet this has a terrible cover".

So, those kids live in that old spooky house that's haunted by a tiger, right?

You know what? I could see that Burning Bright cover working if it was hand-drawn 1970s style.
