What about the Taiwanese films by Hou Hsiao-Hsien? Anybody releasing them? Maybe they would be more likely to come from Artificial Eye, but I would rather have them from MOC, and on blu-ray.

One master is being evaluated this morning. The other hasn't arrived yet, due next week. We should know what's going on with them in a couple of weeks.

We won't be releasing any new titles in December or January, but we will probably be releasing a Mizoguchi box set in January (of the existing 8 films).

I wish I could describe to you the way my breath went like a roller coaster reading that sentence.

edit: (I'll prob buy the set anyway and give my singles to a friend)

I'm genuinely intrigued by the thinking behind a box set of Mizo. Is there a big enough audience that would be attracted by a box set and have already ignored the individual releases? Or maybe there's a thousand Peacocks out there?

I think it sounds sexy, though I already have all the individual releases. Will there be an option for people like me who just want to purchase the new packaging, or is it too soon to say?

I don't have them and was planning on buying them, so I'll get the box.

The same is true for me as well. And I am guessing for many others.
Just waiting for a opportunity to buy these films/DVDs. And could there be a better opportunity than a nicely designed boxset with an attractive price label?!?

I'd love to have this option too but I figure it might not benefit me since one of my Mizoguchi sets is in the original, broader DVD case. So unless MoC are willing to sell me the new box, a new DVD case and new sleeve art I think I might have to go without. Which is a shame as I'm sure whatever artwork they choose for the new set will be a knockout.

That man wouldn't be Frank Borzage by any chance, would he? Seems quite a logical guess considering these are Blu-ray releases...

The rights to the blu-ray Carlotta releases lie with the BFI in the UK, so unless MoC has access to HD transfers of his other films, that's highly unlikely.

Is there ever likely to be a MoC release of 1928's the Passion of Joan d Arc? I know there was a Criterion release a few years back, but trying to track this film now down is next to impossible!

The impossible made possible! criterion edition.

I remember I didn't find the Criterion perfect, but it's not that hard to get.

Good spot, but unfortunately I haven't got a Region 1 player at the moment. Knowing my luck if I did take the plunge and get one, it'd be rereleased in R2 a week later!

The Criterion release of Joan is R0 NTSC, so your R2 player should be able to play it if it converts NTSC to PAL.

Any chance you could get the licence for Ichikawa's An Actor's Revenge from the BFI and put it out on Blu since it doesn't look like this title is going to get a 1080p upgrade from them anytime soon?

If anyone's looking for something fun to do tomorrow night in London; we have prizes for Best Costume and Best Photo at our ATP Halloween show at the Forum headlined by Liquid Liquid, and as well as festival tickets we've kindly been given some House and Human Centipede DVDs to give away.

Hi MoC! When AE loses the rights to DEKALOG, would you like to relicense and release the masters used by WB in Poland for their long-OOP DVD box? I e-mailed Merlin re: re-release and they replied "there is no possibility of their contract", which sounds like there will be no rerelease. The possibilities for extras seem very good. Some extras on the remastered French edition (Editions Montparnasse) may be of interest.

Have not followed this thread for some time, but wasn't there talk of MoC releasing some Epstein's at some point, perhaps even his 'The Fall of the House of Usher'?

Thanks, Nabob. Look's like I will have to seek out that expensive OOP R1, then.
