More like sent to a leper colony. That's a whole pound less than Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter for crissakes. They'd be totally mad to go any further down than that (and for the Americans there's no shipping involved unlike with Amazon)

Couldn´t agree more, this has to be one of my, if not the, favorite set in my collection. It´s actually the first MoC release I ever got (from my sister last christmas).

Actually, that makes me think that these would make very impressive Christmas gifts for the right people - who'll never suspect how little you paid.

Naruse price is a gift. I finally cracked and blind bought it. How on earth could I pass up such an offer?

Still the same problem. Could anyone investigate?

It breaks my heart that this superb set did not get the kind of sales it deserved. Seeing it sell at such a big discount is bittersweet. It was worth (more than) every penny even at its full initial price.

Indeed, this is a superb packaging with top-quality movies. The BFI set also seems excellent.

Just curious--if the Naruse box sells enough at this heavily discounted price, could it bode well for a Vol. 2? Or is that dream pretty much dead in the water at this point?

It's pretty much dead in the water. The industry and marketplace has changed considerably in the last 4 years since it was released and there are too many variables getting in the way (illegal downloads, saturated DVD market, our move to Blu-ray). The window of opportunity has closed for the moment. Hopefully things will settle down, Blu-ray manufacturing prices will come right down, and glorious and risky projects will once again become more achievable.

The best bet at the moment for a bunch of previously unreleased Naruse is probably an Eclipse set - which I'd buy multiple copies of in a heartbeat.

It sucks that it didn't sell well. It's such great movies and the booklet is wonderful. One wonders what you have to do to get a set like this to sell. I'm curious, did the Mizoguchis sell well? I would suppose that titles like "Funeral Parade of Roses" and "Humanity and Paper Ballons" were poor sellers too.

Why not continue releasing DVDs of films that are less market friendly? Is the move to BluRay obligatory?

Because DVD sales have been stagnating for a while, illegal downloading and copying of DVDs is rife, and the market is ridiculously saturated.

Is the move to BluRay obligatory?
It's obligatory for any forward thinking cinephile label that wants to offer the best experience and also wants to stay alive.

Call me a cry baby, but here I go... I just washed my Metropolis t-shirt for the first time: noticed couple of holes in the front of the shirt at waist level. I washed it in 40 degrees, so it can't be that. For the first time I'm unhappy with a MoC product [-(

Metropolis deal back! and OOP buying tab

Whilst it is very sad to have so many titles go OOP recently (and I'd rather they stay in circulation, but whatever helps bring out new titles), I must say the OOP buying page is a greeat way to announce them.

So a UK large is like a US medium? Or like a US XL?

My understanding is subtract a size to get to the US equivalent. Cuz, you know, we're all so fat here.

Funny, they previously offered shirts up to XL size, but now they only go up to large. I have an XL-sized shirt, never worn, still in the original plastic bag it came in, if anyone wants it. Anyone interested can PM me.

I'm a US XL, so. I guess if I order this, I'll have to give the shirt to the missus. Hoping a UK medium will be in the ballpark of a US women's medium.

We're out of stock of XL shirts. The large is quite large though. I'm 6' 1" and a large is quite big on me.

Peerpee will attest to the how large these sizes come up too.

I'm 6' 4" and the L was a bit baggy. The M was perfect fit (snug).

The important thing, I think, is that these are "Beefy Hanes" t-shirts, which are a slightly different fit to a Fruit of the Loom or an American Apparel. If you know what "Beefy Hanes" are like, you'll be able to order with confidence (unless there are differences between Beefy Hanes sizes in the US and UK...)

I hoped more regular titles would pop in the sale *cough* Tabu *cough* but it's still a nice gesture to include the OOP tab.

I assume that Eureka operates on basic principles of supply and demand, i.e. offering titles that aren't moving so well at a great discount so as to increase demand for them. In that sense, you are actually hurting the chances of a particular title being included in a future sale if you keep saying that you want it. If anything, you should be saying something more along the lines of: "New offers everybody! Glad Tabu's not included, what a worthless film that is! It would take nothing short of a discount in excess of 40% off RRP to make me reconsider my opinion on that stinker!"
