Originally (and by that I mean three or four months ago), this was supposed to be Annette Bening's year. And it's too bad for me if it is not as I was hugely looking forward to the potential Valmont reunion between she and Firth. Whatever else happens though I can't imagine her being deprived a nomination (though I think it should be for Mother and Child).

Black Swan finished 6th at the box office this weekend on less than 100 screens - it's Portman's award to lose now.

With Carlos being nominated and even winning a few key awards, it really is a shame the Globes and Oscars will not allow Carlos to be nominated as a film because of it's television roots.

It could use the attention. It's struggling to even reach a $150,000 cum.

The Globes do, however, have categories for mini-series. Carlos and Edgar Ramirez were among their just-announced nominations. I'm guessing that whatever funds are generated from the American theatrical run are just gravy for the international television licensing fees that were surely always expected to form the bulk of the film's income.

Observations:

- Black Swan is a contender! Seeing it nominated for Best Picture, Director, Actress, and Supporting Actress should make it a lock for several Oscar noms.
- Where's True Grit? Big snubs for Winter's Bone and 127 Hours too, leaving them out of Best Drama but including junk like Inception.
- Great to see Andrew Garfield, Michelle Williams, and Ryan Gosling on this list, since they're on the bubble for Oscar noms.
- What a bad year for Musicals and Comedies... yikes.
- The Tourist is a comedy?
