Agree with Steven H. Jo Shishido is so charismatic in the interview and declares that as long as he's alive, Japanese cinema will be okay. It gives an excellent insight into how Suzuki and Shishido made a perfect combo.
I haven't seen the film in six years but I remember it being one of the few films that throws you in a world of animalistic instincts. I remember lots of bright colors and almost psychedelic moments with the slaughtering of a pig for it's meat and the amount of sweat dripping of the prostitutes. This might be a neat one to re-watch tonight.

It was a cow....but yeah, it's visually pretty amazing, both due to the colors and the set design. Just incredibly vivid in every way possible.

I hope you've got Story of a Prostitute lined up. I think it's even better, and it's right in line with your Japan-at-war interest.

absolutely...sadly I wasn't able to find that in the last sale, but may just end up ordering it this summer. my wishlist has dwindled down enough that it's getting hard to find a lot of the titles on it in stores here. I miss a few of the stores back in Michigan - one especially that carried everything in print. fortunately there's so much to watch I can keep myself occupied till I'm able to pick it upzedz wrote:I hope you've got Story of a Prostitute lined up.
