You realize there's quite a market for original hard boiled and scfi 50's paperbacks, don't you?

Either a Smiths album cover or a Belle & Sebastian album cover?
I don't think so. ](*,) I want to say it's tinted blue or green, with a woman's face positioned the same way, maybe facing the opposite direction though.

You're not crazy (at least not with regard to this): I've seen the same cover but I can't for the life of me recall what it is. I think the face is a little more horizontal, but the same direction - if we're thinking about the same thing.

Maybe this? (at least, this is what it made me think of...)

No. If it helps, I think the woman's face just takes up the upper half of the cover.

I appreciate everyone's efforts to derail this thread until I figure this out though.

Well atleast we can say the cover art IS a scene from the film.

It appears that Criterion is repackaging their 3 disc sets:

The bad news:

I am looking at a poster of Cassavetes Shadows that is hanging on my wall which fits the bill

i wonder if they (along with the redone 2-disc cases) will be available for sale the way the replacement bd cases have been.

I don't know, I think I'll hold off on any moves on the Criterion back-catalog. I'd really hate to pay $5 for a new DVD case to something that might come out on blu in a year anyway. In most cases, that's the cost of an upgrade!

The Shadows cover looks very similar to what I'm remembering, but I still believe I'm thinking of an album cover. I think the girl in it might be smiling too.

No, it's not just any old girl in a reclined position, it looks an awful lot like the People on Sunday and Shadows covers, and I'm pretty sure it's an album cover. Now where are my grapes and my thread split?

It's not. I wish it were. I wish the part of my brain that remembers I'm supposed to know things could go and rot in the dank corner of my synapses where my memory of the name of this album has gone to die.

Same here, so I think we are thinking of the same album. I don't own it, but I've seen it around. Actually, it might have been a rip-off of that Shadows image.

Are you sure it's not a Smiths cover?

Don't know about swo, but I am (certain it's not a Smiths cover). They're all pretty iconic (unless you count the faux Smiths covers for recent compilations) and I don't remember any sideways women's heads.

More vague and unhelpful hints: I think it's a new photograph, not an old found image, and it's 'glossier' than the People on Sunday or Shadows images, and, like I think swo mentioned at first, it's tinted (green? orange?). But the more suggested matches I see and the more I think about it the less certain I am of any of this! I'm also thinking "inappropriate skinny / rounded font" but that's very dubious.

(EDIT Re: those two latest suggestions - swo, I think they're taking the piss.)
