No, Criterion just announced a Rivette title on Twitter.

Criterion just randomly posted a behind-the-scenes photo from Beauty and the Beast on Facebook. I think it's a safe bet that that was the Cocteau that was almost ready for announcement last month. So take that, Blu-ray upgrade police.

Man, I hope so- the Philip Glass opera soundtrack could really take advantage of lossless audio, if nothing else.

Shouldn't Rashomon be coming soon, also? 'Twas last year already that it toured theatrically, and it's been like, what, 6 months - 9 by the time the July releases are in stores - since a Kurosawa release.

I would hope that they would update 'Hidden Fortress' since it is the only Kurosawa film in the CC that has not been remastered in digital/HD and could use a few extras.

Are any of Lars Von Trier's films a possibility? Breaking the Waves has been out of print in the US forever. Dancer in the Dark would be great too.

I'm pretty sure Criterion have the rights to Von Trier's Idiots. Saw that here somewhere a couple years back.

I've been praying for a Criterion release of his "Gold Heart Trilogy" for years. If that and Wenders' "Road Trilogy" became box sets in the collection, I could die a happy man...

I've been looking around for a used copy of DRESSED TO KILL and noticed that the number of used and new copies of the MGM DVD available for sale on Amazon has suddenly doubled (from around 18 to 43 in the last few days). I know there's been some speculation about this title recently...any chance that this is a sign that Criterion has a version of this in the works?

so friday is the 15th...have they revealed anything in recent weeks like they did prior to the official announcements last month? Any guesses on what's coming?

I'll go with:

Emigrants/New Land set
Cul-de-sac
12 Angry Men
Y tu Mama Tambien
Wild Strawberries blu ray
Walker blu ray

The print of Kinoshita's Immortal Love that will be playing at the Pacific Film Archive is credited to Janus Films/Criterion Collection.

I like your picks, they don't include the Solodnz films. :)

you did forget the Beauty and the Beast bluray which is probably coming this month (then they will only have High & Low, Salo and Lady Vanishes left of the dvd re-releases that haven't gotten blu upgrades). Rashomon is also due because the theatrical release was a long time ago and they teased Wes Anderson art months ago.

I think:

Carlos
Solodnz
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Things to Come
a vol. 2 eclipse (Shimizu, Rossellini, Ozu)
Beauty and the Beast blu
Le Samorai blu
some random 300-399 spine number upgrade (I picked Blast of Silence a few months ago, and I'm just going to keep picking it because it's probably as likely as any of the other random 300 spine number titles that have come out this year).

In terms of bluray upgrades, I wouldn't be surprised if we had a Hitchcock month sometime later this year (Lady Vanishes and 39 Steps on blu) and a Kurosawa month (High and Low and Rashomon on blu), a Bergman month (Wild Strawberries and Autumn Sonata) and an Anderson month (Rushmore and Royal Tennenbaums) may also be possible. :-p I just keep wishing they would do more months like last July with the two Powell and Pressburger films. it's a shame they haven't been doing this, as I'm greedy to get more of these titles on blu.

The Cocteau upgrade is surely a definite since they mistakenly announced it last month, also Jalsaghar is likely since they posted the grab on facebook.

I feel like being obnoxiously optimistic so:

Rossellini - Bergman boxset
Ray - Jalsaghar
Vigo - L'Atlante
Frampton - Hapax Legomena
Godard - Weekend

Cocteau - Beauty and the Beast upgrade
Melville - Le Samurai upgrade
Rosselini - War trilogy upgrade

I wonder if there's any chance of a Fugitive Kind upgrade?

There's always a chance until the say 100% no, but they still have yet to release a blu upgrade for a spine after #450 that was already released DVD only.

With that in mind... what would be most likely out of that post-#450 list of DVD-only titles? We can rule out:

477 - Bergman Island (Disc 2 on The Seventh Seal)
495 - The Golden Age of Television (film materials too poor in quality to bother)

And we know that they specifically stated they didn't have Blu-ray rights to release the Von Sternberg silents 528-531, at least when it was released, so we can assume that if they wanted to release any Paramount titles from that period they'd have to make a new licensing agreement, which would also make 452 The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, 455 White Dog, 475 The Friends of Eddie Coyle, and 494 Downhill Racer unlikely.

Of the 44 spine #s left, my best guess for most likely to break this precedent would be:

457 - Magnificent Obsession
491 - Z
506 - Dillinger Is Dead
515 - The Fugitive Kind

I'd probably add Trier's Europa and Stillman's The Last Days of Disco to that list - both could easily be upgraded to take advantage of publicity provided by the directors' new films.

I'd be surprised if The Exterminating Angel didn't get a Blu upgrade.

I really hope Y tu mama tambien will finally be announced this week.

By the way, has Criterion ever hinted the possibility of a Cassavetes boxset upgrade?
