Captveg:

I doubt Dillinger Is Dead would be among the first to break the precedent. I'd say Two or Three Things I Know About Her, Salo(rerelease was put out since the start of the blu ray era), The Exterminating Angel, Jeanne Dielman, The War Trilogy, and maybe some others would all be strong candidates.

Well, I was only guessing by the parameters of what they have rights to, what would actually benefit from the upgrade, and what sentiments of demand seemed to be, and my recollection was that Dillinger Is Dead was one of the titles with the most disappointment expressed online when it didn't get BD release.

not really, I'd rather have blu ray upgrades come in pairs ala the powell and pressburger releases.

Well, we had the Fullers relatively recently. If they were to do another one, I would think it would be either the Lean Dickens movies, or the Hitchcocks. Are there any other matched pairs that would fit?

If you want a sign that they might be due for Blu re-release I have recently tempted fate and have just bought both Z and Missing on DVD!

I would have no objection if they did the whole Great Adaptations box- if nothing else, they're all in serious need of a cover art upgrade.

Oh, and I'm sure we'll see Rossen's Alexander the Great since it briefly popped up on the site last month anyways

I wouldn't be surprised to see Renior's The River and The Rules Of The Game being reissued blu.

Errr... the trouble with all these double features is that a lot of those are old releases that can't simply be ported to blu-ray and slapped with a Wacky C. Like The P&Ps and Fullers they're going to need whole new masters/transfers plus new extras. While something like The Lady Vanishes can come out without too much hassle, The 39 Steps and Autumn Sonata or pretty much anything 150 and below still needs a complete overhaul and we'll probably get some advance warning about that.

And I'm sure they'd love to put out their Andersons on Blu, but there must be some rights issues to resolve with Disney before the format jump.

This is completely out of the realm of wishful thinking:

"Andrei Rublev" (both versions) on Blu...and Stalker!
Box set of films by Alexey German (alternatively, by Kira Muratova, Eclipse set would do too!)
Bluray of Cronenberg's "Crash" or/and "eXistenZ"
"Life aquatic" or "Rushmore" Blu upgrade
Madadayo on Blu
Dr. Akagi on Blu (any other Imamura would be great too)

We've gotten advance warning about the Leans, though- I swear we've been hearing that they were going to be upgraded for years. I'm fairly sure Tokyo Drifter/Branded to Kill has been rumored, too.

Criterion edited the "Ask Todd" posting on their website, removing the "coming in July" portion of the article. The assumption is that there has been a delay and the release will be bumped till August.

Does Criterion have the rights to Stalker? I thought Kino held them.

KINO holds the rights to Stalker on DVD; however, they noted recently that they do not have the BD rights. I have never seen an example of these rights being split between two companies. People are now assuming Criterion has the potential rights to a Stalker BD.

It's a dream come true for me, but I think it is also a pipe-dream.
