Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.
I wonder how much of a trend it'll be going forward to have BD cover art that differs from the DVD cover art. Aside from the Wacky C and the sidebar on the earlier titles, up until Beauty and the Beast and Naked the cover art has matched when they do a Blu-only upgrade. (The Leopard had some shading/coloring differences, but in principal it was the same cover design).

Also, 8 1\2 was cleaned up a little and 400 Blows had slightly different proportions. But yeah, same sources.

What do you mean? Does the dvd come in digipack now too? Or does it still come in one of those thick cases, but with updated artwork?matrixschmatrix wrote:They've since changed the Leopard DVD to match the blu, but it was significantly different when released.dustysomers wrote:Do Naked and Beauty and the Beast represent the first significant cover art changes for Blu-only re-releases?

Sheesh. Do we really need a third edition of Beauty and the Beast. I can understand a Blu upgrade, but another DVD upgrade?zedz wrote:If they're redoing the covers for Beauty and the Beast and Naked then I assume they're also changing the content / upgrading the DVD editions?

I believe they changed it to one of the multi-disc thinline cases, like Scenes from a Marriage and Science is Fiction. I get the feeling they're trying to get rid of all the really thick packages.felipe wrote:What do you mean? Does the dvd come in digipack now too? B&B and Naked are only Blu-ray upgrades, so yes, this is a new precedent in terms of the cover art for Blu upgrades, but the fact that they didn't change H&L suggests that they'll only do this as they feel the need.Tribe wrote:Sheesh. Everyone is forgetting that Charade was upgraded from a photo to a painting:

If you read the Eric Skillman blog entry about Charade, it sounds like at the time there was a general policy that "it just made sense to keep the same basic look as the basically successful original DVD"- it sounds as though that policy may no longer be in effect.

Good point. This is more like the B&tB upgrade, where they use the same concept but change up the presentation.Feego wrote:Everyone is forgetting that Charade was upgraded from a photo to a painting
The new Naked cover is just... I mean, what the hell?

I like the new Naked cover. It looks a little like Diane Arbus's photo of the skinny kid with the toy hand grenade. The implosive energy, tendons on the neck, etc. I like, too, the title above his head, as if Thewlis is willing the word into existence.Finch wrote:Thewlis looks like he's about to fart.
And knowing Johnny, he probably is trying to fart, and probably on a woman's sleeping head.

I don't think we need either title upgraded, but up until now new cover (aside from minor tweaks) has always meant new edition. Looks like that's changed.Tribe wrote:Sheesh. I like it all except the Music Room - which is worse than the original Christmas Tale blurry lights cover. just awful.
I love the look on Belmondo's face....and the Naked cover actually works for me. it encapsulates the entire film in one expression - he's about to explode!

I quite like the cover for The Music Room. The background pattern emerges more clearly when looked at from a distance (or maybe that's just due to my own farsightedness).

^ Ha! That's oddly appropriate. That shot of Thewlis was the inside gatefold of the laserdisc.

Reminds me of Axiom's Wim Wenders discs - same designer perhaps?

Since Thewlis never shuts up, why did they choose a still with his teeth clamped shut?

This is what it looks like. They re-released it with the whacky Cfelipe wrote:What do you mean? Does the dvd come in digipack now too? I wish they had done a little more for the Fear and Loathing BD package. The original DVD packaging was very unique and interesting.

The spine is the same color green as the majority of the back cover.felipe wrote:Kes has no interior art? What color is the spine?
