Hey, this edition is the finest, and going OOP, THe CHILDREN ARE WATCHING US from Criterion that is... BTW 'Sight & Sound', the international film magazine and also the BFI house journal, regularly reviews CC discs, an implicit acknowledgement (these are promo copies specifically sent out) of the reach of collection to multiregion European cinephiles....

So because something doesn't interest you personally you're going to get all snarky about it? Just because something doesn't interest you, there's no need to be bitchy about it. Sorry if the rest of the world's e-shopping methods are undesirible to you for whatever reason. It's 2011 though, expand your horizions a little bit. You won't regret it. Many of my favourite releases are from outside my home of the UK, including from Criterion. I'm not looking to pick a fight here: I'm being sincere.Tom Hagen wrote:Personally, I'm not crazy about dealing with the current Blu-ray era hassle associated with purchasing non-R1 discs -- to say nothing of the annoyance of dealing with overseas transactions ("uh, yes bank, thanks for calling, yes that was actually me making a purchase from the UK, no fraud going on here").
All I was doing was mentioning there's another pretty good release of this title about that may fulfil a lot of people's needs if this one is too expensive already. Personally I'd too prefer the Criterion, and it was on my wish list, but releases without English subs are fine for me.

For what it's worth, you can still get a used copy on Amazon from a seller that ships internationally for under $10, though it looks like those are mostly not in great condition.

I don't think you are trying to pick a fight either, but you are being a bit condescending, and you're not even paying attention to what I am saying in some places, or hearing me out on the actual stated reasons for my (admittedly very minor and mostly tounge-in-cheek) annoyances in other places.Tom Hagen wrote: I own a handful of non-R1 discs myself, I don’t necessarily accept that the R1 or Criterion disc of a given title is definitive

I read it and paid attention to it. I just didn't realise ordering from abroad was a much bigger deal than ordering domestically. There's a fair proportion of users on this forum who regularly import from various places to their varying homes. If you're not that type of guy so much than fair enough.Tom Hagen wrote:TMDaines wrote: It's 2011 though, expand your horizions a little bit. You won't regret it. I still don't see why you had be snarky though just because it was something you weren't interested in. It wasn't as if it was a suggestion after you had made a personal request to get this film and already specified that you wanted the Criterion. I was bound to bite back at someone sooner or later because it feels like there's a dozen or so regulars on here that will try to bait others who post occasionally or are new to the forum.
Anyway, let's stop bickering and move on.

Re: 323 The Children Are Watching Us
Considering this is still up on Hulu is it possible that they are either doing a new pressing or are getting ready to release a Blu?

That alone convinces me that Criterion's rights are not in jeopardy. I seriously doubt they would have taken the time to upload this if their rights were about to expire...knives wrote:Considering this is still up on Hulu...

Re: 323 The Children Are Watching Us
Have Criterion let any releases just drift OOP even when they've still had the rights?

Re: 323 The Children Are Watching Us
The closest is Pygmalion which still has an EAH release available.
